Publisher's Note
Little Baby Bobby, who lives on a hill, just can't seem to sit still. So it's inevitable that, in the blink of an eye, his baby buggy goes careening down that hill with his babysitter in frantic pursuit. Whizzing through the park, scattering street vendors' wares, crashing into a fire hydrant, there goes Baby Bobby, enjoying every minute of his wild buggy ride. A perfect read-aloud reminiscent of Nancy Van Laan's Possum Come a-Knockin', this rollicking, rhythmic text gathers momentum as Baby Bobby's buggy wends its way through the town. Laura Cornell's hilarious, overflowing illustrations perfectly capture the lighthearted joy of Bobby's raucous romp. A laugh-out-loud addition to any story hour!

Industry Reviews
Van Laan's (People, People Everywhere!) riotous, don't-try-this-at-home tale sends a ceaselessly smiling tot zipping through town in his runaway buggy, which creates merry mayhem as it crashes into a variety of objects and individuals. "Little baby Bobby/ babbles in delight./ Clap! go his hands/ as his buggy takes flight"; and with each mishap (much to Bobby's amusement, his stroller hits a policeman, a hydrant, a pretzel cart, a painter and a letter carrier), the throng following in the carriage's wake grows. Cornell's (Tell Me Again About the Night I Was Born) ebullient cartoon art helps make this a jolly chase indeed. With ingenuous humor, she conveys the nonstop motion of Bobby's madcap spree as well as a range of exaggerated emotions from Bobby's sheer joy to his in-pursuit sitter's total panic. Her full-spread pictures amplify the beat of Van Laan's alliterative, finger-snapping verse complete with spirited sound effects ("Smasha-crasha-smoosha!"; "Foom-fibba-fum!") that especially recommend this as a read-aloud. Ages 3-8. (July)

PreS-K Little baby Bobby's buggy careens down a hill with his sitter, Britta, in pursuit. The child smiles happily on his merry ride as he crashes into everything in the way a fire hydrant, the pretzel man, the mailman, and other pedestrians. The parade of village people chasing after him breathe a sigh of relief when, after being ejected out of the stroller, he lands safely in the sandbox in the park. The story is told in a sometimes-forced rhyme, with lots of alliteration and onomatopoeia. Colorful watercolors reflect the frenetic action of the wonderfully expressive cartoon characters. Little baby Bobby is having a great time, oblivious to the danger, but the face of his stuffed-bear companion tells another story. Each picture has plenty of detail to engage both listeners and readers. This silly selection will please the storyhour crowd. Martha Gordon, formerly at South Salem Library, NY
