As everyone before me has said, this is not your normal Stephen King novel but I still found it recognizable as his in several ways. It's not his best (nothing will ever trump the unabridged "The Stand") but it's a good read, or in my case, a good listen as I bought the unabridged audio book. Mare Winningham was an excellant narrator and very believeable as Lisey.

The title of this book should have been "Scott's Story" as it was really not Lisey's Story but her story about her deceased husband, Scott Landon, famous writer of horror novels no less. Nearly everything was about Scott and in fact, Lisey didn't have much of an identity without Scott though she couldof, wouldof, shouldof and I'm sure does when she lives on after the book ends.

People who normally stay away from King's work because of the horror will have no trouble with this one. Blood, guts, and creepy crawlies are at a minimum. Instead, the use of fantasy makes for an interesting and even believable backbone thread throughout the novel. Bool.

I got this book hearing great things and wasn't disappointed at all, it was a little slow at the start, but Steven keep you wanting more and of course he did just that, just enough to keep you on the edge wanting more and more, and finally he gives it to you and yes it was a wonderful story of love, and mystery. As others I drive two hours to work myself and this keep me on awake and when I got either to work or home I wanted more.. I do highly recommend this, but be willing to stay in your car to listen to more, it will promise you will..

The best thing you can say about this book is that it was just plain GREAT1 My daughter (an avid reader) said it was sugested in a college journalism class and she read it out of curiosity and liked it as much as I did.

I am a fan of Stephen King. I like audio books for traveling. It makes time go fast. I have been able to get several good deals threw E Bay and continue to shop there.

  Stephen Kings Lisey's Story
Review created: 02/01/08

I prefer audio tapes but only buy them when I can get a deal because, in general, I think they are over priced. I bought this one because I was having trouble getting through the book.

100 pages in to the book and I still wasnt sure what the King was driving to or if I even wanted to finish it which is unusual for me because I love everything else he has done.

The basic premise is Lisey is still trying to cope with her famous author-husbands (Scott) death 2 yrs ago when a nut starts threatening her with bodily harm if she doesnt donate Scotts unpublished manuscripts.

The narrative walks the reader through 'the now' and through flashbacks to give us a picture of what their marriage was like and a glimpse into a special ability that Scott had. I felt that the book had major conceptual weakness and and poor foreshadowing and as such I didnt get what was going on until deep in the book.

Over all I would say this book is just average and is comparable to Rose Madder or possibly Geralds Game. I would recomend it only to those that call Stephen King their favorite author. He is still mine but this is not The Stand or The Gunslinger.

I do have a lingering question to other fans who have read all his books including this one. Do you think you can get to Booya Moon through the trunk of a very special 1953 Buick Roadmaster?

Story was good. If you take it in the spirit it was written you wont be disappointed. I listened to it twice to fully get some of the meanings of the book but even the first time it was a good story.

  Boring!!
Review created: 12/01/07

I could not wait for this unabridged painfully long, boring book, on cd, to end. The only part resembling stephen kings writting, was the part, of lisey discribing her dead husband's childhood. I can't believe king wrote it.

Lisey's Story by Stephen King CD AudioBook Unabridged

Excellent. At first, it is a bit slow and sometimes confusing. But after the whole story, it was almost like an enlightening. Lisey's Story is Scott's Story because her life was Scott. But I gained a whole different meaning from the story. It brought me into the mind of a Horror Story Novelist.

Sometimes you wonder where a novelist (like King) can get ideas, plots and an imagination to bring stories to life. Maybe they do go outside their own being to escape reality. We've all found ourselves daydreaming to another place and time just to escape from our own realities. Scott Landon's escape was Boo'ya Moon. By the end, I was believing in this mystical place and could visualize the pool.

I found myself laughing at Amanda (Lisey's sister). What a sense of humor, especially when she finds the Hallmark Card in her door from her former true love. She definately made an impact on the story line and I don't think I would have enjoyed it as well without her character.

You must have an imagination to enjoy this story. I was glued to this audiobook, even finding myself sitting and listening in my car when I reached my destination just so I could hear what happens next.

Mare Winningham was perfect for reading the story. I am a H'UGE Fan of King's novels and looking forward to more like this.

BOOL, The End

I was entertained throughout the book, however at times felt a little disconnected with the ideas presented. Protagonist developed very well.

  Classic Stephen King

I am a big Stephen King fan sice the early days and was beginning to get disappointed in his books. This has renewed my faith as a fan. The book is suspenseful without being gruesome, but has heart and sympathy for the main character. I read a great deal and audiobooks allow me to increase that time. This kept me intrigued for the whole 16 hours to the point when i got to where I was going, I sat in the car until the chapter was finished. I would highly recomment this audiobook and I think Mare Winningham captures all the varying characters with amazing talent.

I bought this book for multiple reasons, one is that I love almost anything King writes. Two, it was a great deal. I gave around $25 for it including S&H and it would have cost me $50 at the bookstore. It was new and still in the box sealed. Three, I commute 2hours a day to work and back and this really makes the trip more bearable.

The story line is great and King takes you to places you could never dream up yourself and believe me, I have really strange dreams. If you get a chance to listen or read this book, I believe you will love it.

Stephen King at his best,,Lisey's Story

Being a hugh Stephen King fan was excited when this new book came out and I was not disappointed. I really loved this story. It was a little difficult in the first few pages, but definitely worth the patience and after that I could not put the book down. Stephen King at his best. The characters, the story, the storytelling are wonderful. You come to relate with Lisey and your heart bleeds for her husband Scott. This was one of my favorites and as usual was really sad to finish it. If you are a Stephen King fan this is a must read.
