Relatively easy to unlock for use with BYOA providers

Many of the ATAs (analog telephone adapters) for VoIP are provider locked (unless they have -NA in the model number) and the RTP300 is no different. These are either locked to Vonage or Sunrocket, but unlike other products (PAP2 v1.0), Vonage doesn't currently have a firmware that prevents installation of an unlocked firmware. Buying used PAP2s can be a gamble, but used RTP300s, while still not for the feint of heart techwise, can reliably be unlocked for use with PBXes.org, Vitelity, les.net, didforsale, Gizmo, Voxalot, FreeWorldDialup, and the other free, low-cost, and whole sale VoIP service providers.
And while the RTP300 does NOT have Wireless like the WRTP54G (also unlocks reliably), it does have a 4 port switch and broadband router, so you can find use out of it even if you don't want it for telephone service.
Definitely a good buy. Worst case you can't unlock it and use it as a normal router/switch or resell it. Note Vonage will let you add *their* devices back onto an existing account, even if you buy them used, but they won't start service with a used box that was previously registered... they'll make you buy a new box if you're a new subscriber.
