Great Device for learning new styles or starting out.

I've been using a UX-1 for a year and bought this for a friend who wants to learn electric guitar. With earphones you can play through a simulated overdriven amp and get the tone you want from the guitar without pissing off your neighbors (or significant other). You can plug the UX1 into an amp, and you've got the same effect amp'd up. Want overdrive, no need to purchase a pedal.
The tonePort comes with recording software (riffWorks line6 edition) that won't record unless you register (=purchase) it. The recording software is pretty cool, multi-tracked and with multiple takes etc. This might not be what a professional would want, but as a learning tool it can't be beat.
The gearBox software that drives the UX1 has a built in metronome. Great for speed training or setting up to play a piece at tempo. It has a built in tuner app that's at least ok. The big deal is playing wmv or other audio and playing along with no loop delay. It's got a repeat capability so you can go over and over that difficult part of a piece.
All in all, it is one great tool for learning to play. I can imagine it would be useful for gigs too.
