Synopsis Although fans of Michael Connelly's popular and critically praised Harry Bosch series won't find their favorite police detective in this legal thriller, they'll enjoy getting to know the half-brother Harry's never met, California defense lawyer Mickey Haller, who runs his office out of his Lincoln Town Car. Mickey doesn't worry too much about the actual guilt or innocence of his disreputable clientele. Instead, he prefers to concentrate on locating the loopholes in the prosecution's case and keeping an eye on his bottom line. Mickey's priorities undergo a radical shift--too late, perhaps--when he manages to land a rich client accused of assaulting a woman at a bar, and discovers that the apparently slam-dunk case has an extremely unpleasant price tag attached to it.

Industry Reviews "[V]eteran crime novelist Connelly offers intrigue and bracing twists in his first legal thriller....Connelly gets the legal details and maneuvers just right, and Haller is a great character....Contains everything readers have come to expect from powerhouse Connelly." Kirkus (08/01/2005)
"Many a series sleuth has been sidelined by a gut shot so an author can wander off an explore a new genre....[E]very so often that literary leap produces something remarkable, like Michael Connelly's first legal thriller, THE LINCOLN LAWYER....Mastering the form on his first try, Connelly delivers a powerhouse drama." New York Times Book Review - Marilyn Stasio (10/09/2005)
"Potent....Brilliantly plotted and played out, with court scenes...which winch up the tension to the breaking point. New territory for Connelly, author of the peerless Harry Bosch series, but immediately expert, exciting and absorbing. Connelly writes the kind of book that dares you to put it down. Chances are that you won't." Literary Review - Philip Oakes (11/01/2005)
