Synopsis
Drawing on his distinguished military career and his great learning, political conservative Andrew Bacevich presents an intellectually bracing critique of how the nation's leaders, its military establishment, and its citizenry share blame for what he sees as a serious crisis. Bacevich finds all three complicit in the decline of America's stature in the world. He is especially critical of what he sees as a profligate and consumerist population that invariably chooses convenient and soft answers over any sort of difficult challenge. He says Americans look the other way when the nation's military, which he holds in high regard, is sent into wars for economic reasons.

      America, Democracy is calling you!

The author conveys that Americans need to return to their democratic roots and ideals. Both domestic and Foreign policy are in disarray under the status quo.
Americans have no one to blame but themselves. This is a hard-looking interspective, well worth reading. Wake up America - Democracy is calling you!
