My Child w/ Autism LOVES this movie (and so do I)!

Is Barney making you crazy?
I have an 11-year-old son with autism (low functioning). Until he got hooked on Lilo & Stitch, he'd only watch Barney and Sesame St. videos (he resists switching to DVD so he still uses videos). I've never sat down to watch the entire movie but, believe me, I can quote it nearly verbatim because he plays it constantly. It's so wonderful to hear all the Elvis music coming from his room versus the Barney and Sesame St. tunes I've heard over the last 10 years!
The movie and the music are adorable, and it features a misfit little girl (Lilo) who recently lost her parents and is struggling to accept her older sister as her only parent/guardian, and the older sister who struggles to become a responsible parental figure to her younger sibling.
I know there are a LOT of moms and dads on ebay with at least one child with autism since it affects 1 out of every 150 children in the U.S. I'd highly recommend this movie if your child is stuck on Barney, etc. Lilo & Stitch has helped me maintain my sanity! It's a very cute movie, nothing obnoxious about it even though my child has it playing almost constantly for about two years. (He still loves Barney and Sesame St. but only reverts back to them occasionally now.)
It is wonderful to wake up to a beautiful Elvis song for a change. I have put the Lilo & Stitch music on his MP3 player as well, hoping that he will soon become more interested in "real music" versus the same old baby tunes.
Nothing against Barney and Sesame St. They have provided my son with learning entertainment for many years. But now that my son is nearly 12, it's time for him to move on to something new.
