I Like You by Amy Sedaris (2006, Hardcover)

The Sedaris name on anything is usually a good sign that you should buy whatever it's endorsing - canned ham, new authors, small towns with a lot of heart, etc. When I learned of Amy's venture into a crafty, photo collage, cookbook, entertainment and etiquette guide I knew it was going to be informative, ridiculous and hilarious - it's all that and more. From the first few pages Amy reveals herself a master of everything. The combination of recipes adorned with the most unappetizing photographs to grace a cookbook since 1978 (it’s the green lighting…), her costumed presence overlooking party planning and troubleshooting advice and the great ideas for kitsch-tastic gatherings creates a book you can giggle at as well as apply to your next party.

This book won’t let any Amy Sedaris fan down. She’s consistently funny, always creative and an urban crafty entrepreneurial icon. All I’m saying is that you might need two of this book: one for the kitchen and one for the coffee table…and maybe an alternate book for the bathroom, but that one must be relegated to its venue.

This is a great book, ideal for a hostess gift or fun treat for a friend. Hilarious Amy Sedaris offers tips for entertaining & recipes, all a bit tongue-in-cheek, but some are actually useful. Most of all, though, you'll find yourself amused & chuckling over her ideas & suggestions for hospitality & gracious hosting. The book is visually stimulating with lots of funny photos & illustrations. I purchased this book to give as a gift because I already had my own copy.

Amy Sedaris is one funny broad. The book is an amazing mesh of recipes, party strategery, and stories of her past parties. This book is a 5 out of 5.

Amy Sedaris is the ultimate hostess and this book tells how you can be too. Learn how to entertain anyone, from a gypsy to a rich old uncle. Her style and poise is unshakable even when her blind date brings a friend to her house. She covers all topics from hostess gifts to garage sales to cookware. It is a great read and a fantastic laugh. I loved the book so much I have since bought 2 more for friends. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to entertain with a twist. I will always have a garage sale at my dinner parties now and always make a cheese ball. My favorite are the "Captain's Mouthwatering Bite Size Blue-Ball Cheese Balls".

It was just okay and she sounds like she is high on some kind of drug which makes the book hard to follow what is going through her mind. A couple of recipes I enjoyed but the book itself is just plain dumb! Here she has a nice recipe for a cake, p. 137 and right next to it she has a drawing of a girl examining her groin! That is not necessary! Very distastful! Even my daughters thought it was not a good thing to put in this kind of book. I am glad that Amy likes you but this is uncalled for!

Arrived quickly and in great condition. The book is great and a lot of fun. The recipes are really good, but even if they weren't I would enjoy reading this book because Amy Sedaris is hysterical. I highly recommend this book.

This was a great find, a wacky themed cookbook by a witty commedianne; I loved this read, from the inset cover to the very last page, it was a hoot! My personal favorite recipie: The Meat Cake! I work at a fancy hotel and we host the ladies republican luncheon and when I came out with the cake, those broads finally cracked a smile and actually laughed when I showed them the book. By the end of the "meeting" we were all sloshed on gin and bologna and went back to my house and watched strangers with candy!

First off let me say that if you are up-tight or prudish this is not the book for you. For the rest of us with some edge READ IT! You have to be able to "keep it real" to appreciate it. She is a trip.

I bought this book as a gift to somebody and they absolutely LOVED it, very funny!! Highly recommended for anybody who likes to entertain!

A unique approach written with humor cookbook. Recipes are good and basic.
I bought it as I heard word of mouth, that it was a 'cool' book.

I bought this for a friend of mine for her birthday. We both got a big kick out of it Amy Sedaris it the best. There are real recipes in the book too!

I was waiting for another (Martha Stewart type) retro book. Not this book VERY funny and some pretty darn great tips! you have to read it!

I truly enjoyed this effort from Ms.Sedaris. The pictures are hilarious. Only Amy can come up with this out of this world wackiness. But to truly appreciate her style, I suggest reading "Wigfield" just palin brilliant.

I saw this book and author on paula deens show and thought it sounded like a funny cookbook. It is funny in places and has some good recipes but is kinda weird and does have some adult content.I think Amy is great but i just wasnt feeling a whole book of well napoleon dynomite humor.

very useful book for entertaining,, the author is one of the funniest and sincerest persons today. never regret buying this book. =)

I had bought a copy of this for a gift. When I got to look at it, I knew I had to have a copy for myself.The recipes are really good and pretty straight-forward, but the entertaining guide tips are hilarious. If you really need to know what kind of "party enhancers" your guests are imbibing in, if you need to know what to do if a rich uncle visits, if you need to entertain a lumberjack for some reason, if you're in need of really bizarre craft project ideas, or if you're a fan of Amy Sidaris (of Strangers With Candy fame) then this is the book for you. Not for the faint of heart.

I bought this book when I saw it on TV. I'm glad I did, it has many easy recipes and lots of tips on entertaining and tips for women. I think the book is longer than it needs to be, but very funny

I loved the book! Amy is beautiful, witty, and so "1950s!" As I read it I laughed so hard so many times that I had tears running down my face. The recipes are a great bonus, too.

My mom and I seen the movie 'Strangers with Candy', starring Amy Sedaris. We both enjoyed the movie so when I seen this book written by Amy Sedaris I knew I wanted to buy it for mom as a gift. Of course, seeking a good deal I checked out ebay in hopes of finding a copy. Sure enough I bought the book at the price I wanted to pay and it came in perfect condition! Wouldn't you know before I was able to give my mom the book she had already checked it out of the library! Atleast I know she will like it!!
