Desperation Band evolved from a Christian student ministry conference based out of the New Life Church is Colorado Springs, Colorado. Unlike traditional secular acts, the group sees itself primarily as a group of worship leaders devoted to helping people become closer to Jesus. Following several live releases, LIGHT UP THE WORLD is Desperation Band's first studio worship effort. Like on previous albums, here the act delivers its powerful, faith-driven brand of Christian pop/rock with passion and youthful energy, evoking a combination of Coldplay-style atmospheric Brit-pop and acoustic-based singer-songwriter acts such as John Mayer and Gavin DeGraw. On songs such as the title track, "You Hold it All," and "Great God," soaring, dramatic vocals and hope-filled lyrics are matched with delicate guitar textures and a throbbing rhythm section, all of which conspire to deliver a sound at once thoroughly modern and powerfully inspirational.
