  Does it have to end?

This series is so wonderful that I did not want it to end! This book tells the story of the Civil War through the eyes of two slaves, Grady and Anna (Kitty). The book is so moving and you really feel like you are there with them, reliving the war. I really love how the book explores their relationship with God as the war unfolds. If you have not read the first two books, I would recommend that you read them first. They are Candle in the Darkness (the story is told through the eyes of the courageous daughter of a slave owner who feels that slavery is immoral), Fire By Night (the story is told through the eyes of a rich young northern girl who becomes a nurse to wounded soldiers to prove to others that there is more to her than they think). I just love Lynn Austin's books! She is a natural story teller.

What did I love about it? Everything! This book and the series it is part of are wonderful, fabulous and nearly perfect!

It is spiritually uplifting, historically accurate and it draws the reader right into the Civil war!
The book provides wonderful insight in what this woman's life was.

I dislike the fact that it ended, but alas, every book must come to a close. :)

  A Light to My Path

The final book of an excellent Civil War series. Lynn Austin is one of my favorite authors - a great historic review of the Civil War. Although slavery was abolished, the racism continued and the balance of abilities was very slanted with the plantation owners refusing to allow education for all people. This series was a great reminder of American history, and gave a depth of insight into the hearts of the slaves and their struggle on finding their places in a free society, gaining education and finding work to support their families, as well as many trying to find their lost family members traded on the slave market. I would recommend this series.

I don't have much time to read, so when I do I want the book to be worth the effort. This book is definately worth the time. The character development and story lines were excellent, I also enjoyed the historical aspects. I highly recommend this book, just one caution, it is a hard book to put down so start it when you have plenty of time to read!!!

It is a great book! I love having the perspective of two slaves during the civil war. I think that they do not get enough written from their view, and although this is fiction, you can get a real to life account. I recommend this book to anyone!
