Fitting End to the Mitford Years Novels

In Light From Heaven, gifted author Jan Karon concludes her Mitford series in grand style! This is not just a 'tying up loose ends' book — it's another beautiful Karon story with a cast of engaging characters, both old and new, as only Karon can draw them. I've enjoyed all the Mitford books immensely and highly recommend the series. All nine titles are readily available on eBay. I've given the set as gifts along with her cookbook, and they were well received.

Jan Karon has such a "friendly" way of writing! The books are
a relaxing and enjoyable read. I share them with friends and
family. I find myself thinking of the characters, as if they
were real! I even get ideas from the books on what to cook,
and what to plant in the yard!!

  Warm and charming!

This is a warm and comforting closure to 'The Mitford Series' of Jan Karon's books. For fans of her small-town flavor and the charm of genuinely good people, this book is remarkable in that it brings all the components and characters of her previous books to a satisfying conclusion. I am told her new series begins with Father Tim and Cynthia back in his hometown in Mississippi, so those of us who can't get enough of these characters need not despair. As Ms Karon has done in the past when keeping us in touch with what's happening in the lives of North Carolina's Outer Banks characters, I would like to think she will keep us updated on the Mitford characters as well. She demonstrates such skill in weaving in the lives of so many, while still keeping us interested in each and every one. I am sure that, as the Mitford series concludes, that there are still plenty of heartfelt surprises, dear friends old and new, and important lessons to be learned. As with her other books, this will be one added to my shelf to loan to friends and loved ones to uplift them with spiritual refreshment, serenity and a wholesome wisdom conveyed in a series that wraps you in a warm afghan of love.

  Light From Heaven

Light from Heaven is the last novel in the Mitford Series by author, Jan Karon. Mitford is small town in the mountains of North Carolina and Father Tim Kavanagh is a retired Episcopal priest who is loved and respected by the people of the town whose lives intertwine with his. It is set in modern time. New characters are introduced as Father Tim is asked to revive a mountain church that had been closed for 40 years, but the old "friends" that we met in previous books of the series are also present. This series makes you feel as though you are part of the town of Mitford. I eagerly looked forward to reading this last book and I wasn't disappointed. It is excellent!

I am an avid reader and this series was one of my favorites. Light from Heaven was the final installment and was a great way to end the series. Some parts were rather predictable but that did not detract from the story but rather made you feel the story concluded correctly.

This is a SUPER GOOD book. You should start at the first of this series. But I'll tell you now, if you do you CAN NOT stop. That is how good Jan Karon writes.

A Lovely Way to Discover a Series
Review created: 06/21/06

I read this book without the knowledge of it being part of a series. What a delight to find that it was. It is a light-hearted book, with characters that you'll likely relate to. The author builds off of characters presented in previous books in the series. However, a reader is never left wondering who these characters are or how they fit in. Such a natural flow of storytelling should be praised.

Even if you do choose to start at the end as I did you will likely enjoy. It was a pleasant escape from the more profound books that are usually weighing down my book bag.

"Light from Heaven", is supposedly the final book in the Mitford series by Jan Karon. Fortunately, the ending leaves room for another, as fans of Mitford, like myself, would love to see.
Father Tim Kavenaugh and his wife Cynthia, their family, friends, pets and all, give one a delicious sense of small town closeness. Mitford is the kind of place, with the kind of inhabitants, that makes one wish it were real. And so it is, is many similar small towns across America. You will recognise the characters as people you know, uncles, aunts, neighbors, and you feel immediatly at home.
One word of advice, begin at the beginning, with the first book. You won't be sorry, and, by the way, I'm sure they are all available on E bay!

I love the Jan Karon Mitford series. I was sad to know that this was her last book, but she didn't disappoint her readers. Father Tim and Cynthia sail on through life, with more answers and questions; as Jan Karon sets you up for her next series. She will be doing a series on Father Tim, and this book just whets your appetite for more

I bought the first book at a store that had used books included in their things for sale. While reading the book I was hooked and looking at the first pages, realized they were a series. I went to a used book store and accidently but happily found only two of Jan Karon's books, one was the one that I was reading at the time and the other happened to be book two which I purchased very quickly. After doing research and learning how much it was going to cost to purchase the rest of the series from the published, I happened to remember purchasing some books a couple years before from e-bay, so I went to the website and found all of the rest of the series.
I love reading these books because not only do they are so well written that you actually feel like you are right there in Mitford while you are reading them. I also like the references to the bible through out the books. Some years ago I collected the Grace Livingston Hill books and still have them. Occasionally I run across one of her books that I do not have which is few and far between since I have most of them. They are really good but Jan Karon's books transport you to the site/scene you are reading about so very well. I loaned one to a friend of mine and she just let me know that she had read the first chapter of book one and clearly understood why I loved them so well.

I bought this book because I had already read and loved the others in the series. Light From Heaven is the 9th book in the Mitford series by Jan Karon. It is in perfect condition even though it was sold as used. Also, the price was great. There are no dislikes with this book.

  ANOTHER HIT FOR JAN KARON
Review created: 08/06/08

This is the final book in The Mitford Series....I needed to buy it to complete my series. This particular book was new in it's original wrapping and the price was extremely reasonable.
I now have the complete series and have since lent them out for friends to enjoy. When they are returned...I will read them again.
Jan Karon is an excellent author and I look forward to reading more of her work.

Review created: 05/05/08

I truly enjoy Ms. Karon's books. I got this title because it was the next in the series that I have been reading about Father Tim. These books are wholesome without being "cheesy" and the characters deal with some real-life difficulties. What's to dislike about this book?....can't think of a thing!

Jan Karon's Mitford series is a delight and I looked forward to this final book. It did not tie up all the loose ends but life isn't like that either. It was another satisfying dose of Father Tim and the folks of Mitford, a place I wouldn't mind residing in to the end of my days.
