I became fascinated with Anne Catherine Emmerich after I heard stories about her miraculous visions and how she was taunted by Satan during her lifetime. I read her visions on Mary Magdalen, and once I finished that book, I knew I had to read this one to find out more about this fascinating woman. Although this book is in 2 large volumes, it is an interesting and well-written read.
The first volume focuses on Anne Catherine's life from birth through adulthood. It discusses in detail how she recalls being baptised as an infant, how she was tempted by the devil who tried unsuccessfully to scare her out of prayer, and what happened when she was blessed with the stigmata on her hands, head, feet and breast. This volume shows all this poor soul had to endure, which she did willingly for Jesus.
The second volume is a compilation of her many visions. Anne Catherine had a penchant for being able to see things from the past and view things that would happen in the future. Her visions included: what occurred during the time of Adam and Eve; the birth and passion of Jesus; the death of the Virgin Mary; the lives of numerous Saints and martyrs; the issues affecting the Catholic church in today's society, and much, much more. This is a most fascinating and interesting book, and I highly recommend that all Catholics read it at least one time. It will provide you with an insight you never would have imagined.
