Synopsis Murders both past and present could derail a political campaign in this second thriller from author David Ellis. In 1979, first-person narrator Jon Soliday and his friend Grant Tully attended a drunken party. Soliday had sex with a young woman there who was later found dead. Soliday remembers little of that night, and Tully's father helped clear him of murder charges. In 2000, Tully is a state senator running for governor, and Soliday is his legal counsel. Tully sends Soliday to meet with lawyer Dale Garrison on a campaign-related matter; Garrison is found dead shortly thereafter and all evidence points to Soliday. Could the present-day crime be linked to the earlier murder? And just how reliable is the narrator, anyway?

Industry Reviews "A twisty, swiftly placed second legal thriller puts Ellis...into the ring with Scott Turow....This one's all about the puzzle...and what a tricky, surprising puzzle it is." Kirkus (12/15/2002)
