Pros:
Beautifully simple, truly traditional, full of ideas, easily enjoyable

Liege And Lief marked the entry of seminal English band Fairport Convention into traditional folk songs after four albums of contemporary material which netted them a surprise UK hit single with "Si Tu Dois Partir" (a French rendition of Dylan's "If You Gotta Go Now"). Liege And Lief drew heavily on the revival of traditional folk song by the elusive Anne Briggs in the middle 1960s, and the record's atmosphere was much more developed than on their previous three albums, being melodic, lush and at times eerie.
