How to Lie With Statistics by Darrell Huff (1993, Paperback, Reissue)

This is the book that should replace the text we had to study in our high school economics course. What is more, it should be required reading before anyone is handed a voter registration or credit card. Overstatements? I don't think so.

For over 40 years it has been the bible for "the rest of us". Those of us who look at the "facts and figures" presented by politicians and hucksters and say "it adds up, but it ain't right" have found an easy to understand source of rebuttal to the assault on our brains and pocketbooks. Although the figures Huff uses should probably have an extra zero added at the end to compensate for inflation, his basic concepts are so true and easy to understand that anyone can follow him to that long sought juncture where common sense meets statistics. And to sweeten the pot even further, Huff manages to do so while making us laugh out loud at the absurdity of it all. Highly recommended.

When I first received the book, I the title page caught my attention. After reading it, I didn't notice that the book was written in the 1950s. I wonder why there has not been a current edition for a topic such as statistics. This book was bought for a research method class. It would be a good resource for someone who is studying previous research methods in the 1920s-1950s decade. Definitely not for the 21st century.

Excellent read for person wanting to understand how statistics are manipulated and give intellegent examples of applications and how they can easily be misinterpreted or misrepresented. recommend highly!

Love this book, have owned a copy for years. Bought this one for a friend. Puts statistical analysis into perspective. You can prove anything with statistics. Truly you can.
