  Love Lidia!

Watching Lidia work in her kitchen on PBS is like actually being there with her. You want to help her stir the sauce, boil spaghetti or fry some foods and especially make dessert so you can eat as much as you want! Well, we can't and so that is why this book helps you do all that and more at home. She is a wonderful teacher and her words make you feel as if she has written this cookbook for you alone. Before each section she tells a story and it sets the mood for the recipes that follow. I love the dessert chapter especially,....or my sweet tooth does,.....where she talks about the Italian culture in relation to their "coffee breaks." The mid-morning break is for meeting friends or getting away from work to relax. They have a cup of espresso and usually a fruit tart or small sandwich. This is the time for chit chat. It is repeated in the late afternoon and usually last longer....maybe even into a siesta. This is the time for coffee or cappuccino and a dolci or gelato and more importantly, people watching. She stresses very sternly that the Italian people very rarely grab something to eat while walking and they'll always take every opportunity to sit, relax and socialize. Sounds good to me!

  My new cookbook!
Review created: 07/09/06
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The new cookbook, Lidia's Italian-American Kitchen was one that I had planned to purchase along with all of her other writings. I just never have time to go out and actually part with the expensive cost of a new cookbook to add to my huge collection. I came home one evening and thought "I could try Ebay" and sure enough....there it was, brand new, and at a price that I thought impossible to win. I bid a little over the existing bid and got it. I experienced a great seller that wrapped my "gift" beautifully. The book arrived very quickly and in "right off the shelf condition". I have used it many times and hope to find the rest of Lidia's books on Ebay in the future. O would never hesitate to deal with this seller again. What better way to purchase anything? Ebay offers the convenience of comparison shopping, the delight of making the deal and it's done in the comfort of my home when I have time and patience to enjoy. I love it!

This Italian cookbook is absolutely fabulous. It's has very easy to follow instructions, outstanding recipes and it's filled with much cooking information. Being Italian and having been to Tuscany for cooking lessons, much of what I learned there is in this wonderful book. Touche' Lidia for sharing all your wonderful cooking skills. If you have no Italian cooking skills this book with make you a first class Italian chef in no time, if you do have the Italian cooking skills, it's sure to expand your cooking knowledge. I always place a post-it on the top of the pages of my cookbooks for easy access to finding a recipe. This book has so many post-its, it will take me forever to try them all. I highly recommend this book for beginners and experienced cooks. It's the Italian book of cooking knowledge. Buona Fortuna and Ciao...

  Easy to use cookbook

I needed some basic Italian recipes and Lidia makes everything easy. Her down to basics style has given me inspiration to take off on my own and make some simple but unique recipes. Lydia's anecdotes and chapter introductions add another dimension to each ingredient, tool, or type of recipe featured. Her whole approach adds an air of familiarity and confidence to my attempts at cooking.

This cookbook is a joy to read. The recipes are easy to follow and absolutely delicious. Since I cook and bake there was no trouble following the instructions; just couldn't wait to taste the final dish. We highly recommend this delicacy from Lidia.

First it was easy to find. typed in title and up about 20 came. The price - The price I saw on television was 35.oo and I got a brand new copy for 14.00. Shipping - It arrived in record time. It is exactly what I wanted and I saved more than 1/2 the cost. My husband thinks I am very smart. Me. Too... I love E-Bay.

Great for Experienced Chefs as well as Newbies!
Review created: 08/07/09

This brillance of this book lies in its simplicity. Great food does not have to be complicated and very few chefs/authors illustrate this as well as Lydia. The instruction is clear concise and straight forward, just a good cook book should be. Great for Italian country cooking with an American audiance in mind. Lydia's ingrediants are almost always easily obtained so you don't have to live in a major metro area to use this book on the spur of the moment. Another plus is the font/type face used in the book --great for working in the kitchen and glancing back at it on the fly. You will find something for a big family sunday brunch or a romantic dinner for two. If you are serious about Italian cook GET THIS BOOK!

  Great Cookbook!
Review created: 01/09/09

This book is perfect for the home cook. Lidia is my favorite Italian cook and her cooking is very similar to my family way of cooking. She uses fresh ingredients, and many of the ingredients you tend to have on hand. Each recipe is more mouth-watering than the next. I bought this as a gift for my Mom, who is already a fabulous Italian cook, but she was thrilled to get the book and to try some fresh new Italian-American recipes!

  Good cookbook for advance intermediates.
Review created: 09/22/08

This is a very well written book and easy to follow. Good instructions. I would consider this generally an intermediate to advanced intermediate book. Which is good because the more time you put in, the more you get out. All the menus have been hits so far, and I've cooked about a dozen. You learn good cooking technique too. I wish there more pictures because that motivates me to cook something that looks good, but many cookbooks don't do that so it's a minor complaint. I'm glad I got this at a discount. I'm sold on Lidia and am bidding on her other books.

Good book. basic italian recipes. easy to folIow

Basic ingredients simple but good recipes.I wish she would have given a bit more variation. It has lots of the same concepts with just a bit of difference. Like spinach with garlic & oil, broccoli w garlic/oil, broccoli rabe with / garlic/oil. They all seemed the same. The recipes are good and I liked her marinara with sliced garlic insead of minced. Overall a good book. I don't plan to try the tripe but the basic pizza recipes are loved by my husband and daughter.
