Album Notes Full performer name: Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark. Orchestral Manoeuvers In The Dark: Stuart Boyle (guitar); Nigel Ipinson (piano); Andy McCluskey, Phil Coxon (programming); Beverly Reppion, Nathalie James, Doreen Edwards, Ibrahim Osi Efa (background vocals). Producers: Andy McLuskey, Phil Coxon, Barry White. Recorded at The Pink Museum Studios and The Ministry, Liverpool, England. The second and final album recorded by singer/keyboardist Andy McCluskey under the name Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark after the departure of his partner Paul Humphreys during a five-year recording hiatus, 1993's LIBERATOR is perhaps the most commercial pop record ever released under the OMD name. Recalling "If You Leave," the band's breakout hit from the soundtrack of the film Pretty In Pink, this is saying a lot. The songs are skillfully melodic, and the production is state-of-the-art '90s adult pop. The single "Dream of Me" even goes for the nostalgic value of Barry White, being obviously based on the Love Unlimited Orchestra's instrumental classic, "Love's Theme." It shouldn't work, but it does, and the same could be said for LIBERATOR as a whole.
