My dream printer

I originally bought this simply because it was reasonably priced and had card reading capability. I discovered it is my dream printer. It churns out both color and black printing on cheap or luxury paper. The cartridges are easy to replace. The scanner software lets me use my preferred photo editor, Microsoft PhotoEditor, and the scanning options cover a wide range. It also lets me scan multiple items into a PDF file, which is valuable because we're involved in a lawsuit and it's easier for me to store legal papers that way. The OCR software works well, although you have to know to install it separately. The printer does pull paper in sort-of sideways, but most of the time it prints straight anyway -- I use Word's label printing option with it all the time to print one particular label and 95% of the time the label I selected is printed exactly right. I sell quite a bit and this is the printer I use to print my shipping labels from Paypal (on the half-sheet Avery labels). I like pulling the memory card out of my Sony Mavica, putting it into the card reader, and letting the software automagically copy the photo files into a designated folder on my hard drive and erase them from the memory card. The black ink cartridges are very easy to refill with the Stratitec kit I bought at Sam's; the color cartridges are more of a pain but still easy enough when I consider how much money I'm saving.
It's not perfect, of course. The software lacks flexibility to let me set my preferred printing, scanning, and photo copying options. Having to know that the OCR software has to be installed separately, and finding it on the install CD, is a nuisance. Sometimes when there is a lot or a little paper in the feed tray, it pulls multiple sheets through or won't pull anything through at all. But by and large, it is the most flexible and reliable printer I've found for anywhere near the money, and I'm so worried about the day my current one dies that I've bought a couple of replacements to store until needed. I'm also currently buying a couple because my daughter, off at college, has decided she wants her own printer and my son decided he wants his own printer too. By giving each a P3150, not only am I giving them reliable, inexpensive printers, but we'll all be able to save money by using the same printer cartridges that I already know how to refill.
