Album Notes The Beatles: Paul McCartney (vocals, guitar, piano, bass instrument); John Lennon, George Harrison (vocals, guitar); Ringo Starr (drums). Additional personnel: Billy Preston (keyboards). Generally regarded as the Beatles' last album, LET IT BE was actually recorded in 1969, before the recording and release of ABBEY ROAD. LET IT BE was greeted with mixed reviews when it came out in 1970, and is still a controversial disc in the band's catalogue--many fans reject it, while others defend it fiercely. Notable for its difference from anything else the Beatles recorded, LET IT BE has a raw, ragged, muscular sound that recalls the band's very earliest rock roots. The songs were mostly recorded live (save Phil Spector's overdubs on "The Long and Winding Road," "Across the Universe," and "I Me Mine"), and the result is a world away from the meticulous, high-sheen sophistication of the group's George Martin-produced releases. No one is likely to argue that LET IT BE is the band's best album, but it is a strong release nonetheless. From the easy-rolling folk feel of "Two of Us" to the interlocking vocals and screaming guitar of "I've Got a Feeling" to the epoch-making title cut (one of Paul McCartney's finest moments), the album bristles with good songwriting and gutsy energy. There are moments of filler--the rock & roll rehash "One After 909," for example--but at its best, as on John Lennon's meditative "Across the Universe" and the driving "Get Back" (which features Billy Preston on keys and is the record's high point), it shows the Beatles for what they always were: a top-notch, hard-working rock band. Reviews Review created: 07/07/08 by: after growing up in the 60's and early 70's the Beatles were my favorite group. I started collecting every Beatles album as it was released. my sister also bought them so as a kid I recorder hers never realizing that by not opening mine that someday they would all be worth a whole lot of $$$$$. I haven't had a turntable for over 30 years so mine are still sealed and mint. but I wanted all the Beatles albums so I could hear them since mt reel to reel tapes and cassettes wore out. I BOUGHT ALL OF THE BEATLES ON CD AND THIS WAS THE LAST ONE I NEEDED TO BUY. IT WAS ONLY 2 DAYS OLD WHEN I BOUGHT THIS FROM A NICE YOUNG MAN WHO BOUGHT IT DOWNLOADED IT TO HIS IPOD AND RESOLD IT. THANKS A MILLION Review ID: 10000000007867916 Was this review helpful? Everything just flows with simplicity and fluidness filled with memories and feelings so hard to describe. The beatles are so much apart of most of our lives I just had to write a review. Well, not really a review but a testament of sorts. I don't think I would be the musician I am today if it weren't for those four guys... This is by fay my favorite album and sadly their last one all together. It's melancholy and romantic, wild and seamless. I even love the way Paul goes flat on the end of "The Long and Winding Road". This album is so great that when it first came out I had a hard time relating with it and then it grew on me and grew and grew and grew and now it's part of my limbs. A lot of talk about always having positive feelings, and being apart. I own all the Beatles albums, and this is definitely one of my favorites. Especially good with age. Love it! Next came cassette, now on CD. This is the real Let It Be, not the "New" naked version. I always thought of this as the last Beatles album. The apple on my LP was Red, not Green. Like the band had become ripe. It has the "album versions" of Get Back and Let It Be, which are just a little different than he singles versions, but enough different that a fan or avid listener will notice. Yeah I like it. "On behalf of the group and myself I hope we passed the audition." Review ID: 10000000006334757 Was this review helpful? Report this review My older sister had the vinyl, YEARS ago, and I think it's probably my favorite Beatles album. Great all the way though. Review ID: 10000000004793972 Was this review helpful?
