Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man (DVD, 2006)

As far as Leonard Cohen goes I waiver back and fourth between really liking Leonard Cohen and loving Leonard Cohen. I bought this DVD and was very much dissapointed. Don't get me wrong the parts with Mr. Cohen speaking are great, unfortunately that seems to account for about 25-33% of the DVD. If you are in the market for a DVD of people covering Leonard Cohen songs then this one may be for you. I myself was more interested in hearing Mr. Cohen speak and didn't feel that was given a large enough role in this film.

While some performances were good, I would say that I didn't really care for the majority of them. Then again I can't claim to be a huge fan of those listed. I had really hoped that the music and words of Leonard Cohen would transcend artists but alas it did not. When the documentary finished I was really stunned at how much in fact I had disliked it (minus parts with Mr. Cohen). I thought that there was still one chance at redemption and that would be in the special features. There was one special feature titled something to the effect of Leonard Cohen Speaks, or a Conversation with Leonard Cohen, I thought "there it is", it lasted less than 4 minutes.

If you're looking for a DVD with mainly performances by people who are not Leonard Cohen interspersed with Mr. Cohen speaking, then this is MAY BE the perfect DVD. Unfortunately Mr. Cohen seems to take a backseat to those performing his songs. If you're looking for a documentary with Mr. Cohen firmly in the front seat look elsewhere.

Just bought "Ladies and Gentleman: Leonard Cohen" and hope it's better. Will review when I've watched it.

A must see for any Leonard Cohen fans!!! Loved it from beginning to end. Poet of the century - and Canadian eh.... I've shown it to one friend so far and she has become a Cohen fan. I'm so glad I now have this DVD in my collection - hope I don't wear it out.

I saw it on the HAIGHT in S.F., and I want to turn everyone on to it! The poet of the centuryin his own words, and the words and song of others. It is the most exciting and enlightening film I have seen in years!

Bought this for my husband who is a huge Leonard Cohen fan. Personally, I don't like his music but makes a great gift for someone who is.

Saw Leonard Cohen on TV and loved his music. Wanted a DVD of his and ordered this one because I loved the song "I'm Your Man". DVD in great condition and loved music.

This DVD was just as described! It came well pack and super fast! Well worth the price/shipping cost. I highly recomend this seller. I will buy form them again!

If your a fan or a new listener this dvd is very good showcase of leonard cohen's music..I'd recommend it..

We've watched this at least 3 dozen times. Fabulous performances of some of the best songs written by the great Leonard Cohen.

This DVD was a total revelation to me. I had heard a few songs in the past by Cohen but wasn't really familiar with his body of work. This is a fascinating biography with awesome performances. I really appreciate the dedication Cohen has in his writing to find that absolutely perfect fit of feelings and words. That really comes through in the completed song.

A wonderful, moving tribute to one of the 20th/21st century's greatest poets and songwriters. There are some truly wonderful performances -- one of my favorites in Antony's performance of "If It Be Your Will." I am grateful to Lian Lunson for introducing me to some performers I was unaware of until I say his film -- including Antony. I also especially liked Rufus Wainwright's two performances.

The inter-cut interview segments with Leonard Cohen are marvelous, and enhanced my respect and admiration for him.

Some of the performances in this film have been very savagely criticized -- totally unfairly, in my opinion. If you're standard of excellence is the slick, over-produced, predictable mainstream, then you'll turn your nose up at this film, like the mainstream critics/addicts have done. If you see the mainstream for what it is and are open to more daring, direct, unpredictable, honest and human artistry, then you will appreciate this film.

Watching this DVD is like a journey. What a charming old/young/ ageless man. What a golden voice. What a life. Thank you.

A well packaged tribute to a great singer/songwriter. Wonderful performances, and great interview footage with a very talented group of fine musicians. If you like Leonard Cohen, you'll love this DVD.

I liked learning about the poet and songwriter, his life and philosophy as well as listening to a sampling of his music. Some of the selections were superior to others, mainly because of the quality of the artists in my opinion. Highlights: Susanne's Song and I'm Your Man by Nick Cave, Everybody Knows and Alleluia by Rufus Wainwright, and I Try to Be Free by Betalla ___.

I did not like the advertising that implied Bono would be a regular contributor. Actually, he sang melody on one song and offered some commentary.

Lenord Cohen's music has always helped me feel good. While catching moments of the last fifteen minutes or so one spring morning... I had to get it.

As I was viewing I'm Your Man, I was offered another opprtunity to reflect on life in the comfort of quiet moments...And so I did. Kev Clark
