Synopsis
In this collection of interviews, first published in Rolling Stone magazine in early 1971, magazine founder and editor Jann Wenner interviews the former Beatle John Lennon on a variety of subjects then current, like the Beatles' still-fresh breakup, his relationship with his wife, Yoko Ono, and what the future might hold for him. Lennon is refreshingly frank throughout. Flashes of his biting sarcasm are often displayed, particularly on the subject of his ex-songwriting partner Paul McCartney (these were the days of "How Do You Sleep," before the cuddly revisionism of the early 21st century) and his rival Mick Jagger, whose band, the Rolling Stones, he accuses of copying the Beatles. The political turmoil of the late 1960s also hangs over the interview, as does the ongoing ferment over Vietnam. Lennon's intelligence and hard-nosed pragmatism are much in evidence, but his main enthusiasm is reserved for Yoko and for his music (he had just completed the first Plastic Ono Band album). A fascinating artifact from a bygone era, LENNON REMEMBERS conjures the chaos of its times and the still-fresh resentments between the members of the band that changed the world.

Publisher's Note
For the first time ever in print: The full John Lennon Rolling Stone interviews from 1970. Includes substantial new material, never before published.
Here, available for the first time in full, are the extraordinary interviews with John Lennon conducted by Rolling Stone editor Jann Wenner in 1970. With characteristic honesty and deadpan wit, Lennon discusses the break-up of the Beatles, his favorite tracks with the group and how they were made, fellow musicians including the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan, his attitude toward revolution and drugs, and the tenderness of his relationship with Yoko Ono. Published on the twentieth anniversary of his death, and containing substantial material never before seen in print, Lennon Remembers presents a compelling portrait of a complex musical genius at the height of his career. Sometimes anguished and angry, often tender and poignant, these interviews are indispensable to understanding who John Lennon was and why his legacy continues to resonate today.
New foreword by Yoko Ono, new introduction by Jann Wenner. Includes never-before-published facsimiles of handwritten lyrics by Lennon.
