Lenka by Lenka (CD, Sep-2008, Epic USA)

I find it totally amazing that music that is this bright and bubbly can still have lyrics with great substance which are deeply moving.
My daughter introduced me to the music of Lenka ("Trouble Is A Friend") and I was mesmerized by the fragile beauty of her voice that belies the strength of character in this 30-year-old singer. Lenka is an Australian actress, turned musician, of Czechoslovakian descent who now lives in Los Angeles.
My favorite tune is the catchy, easily remembered "The Show" which has been featured as soundtrack for an Old Navy as well as an Ugly Betty commercial and promoted as a iTunes Free Single of the Week. The lyrics remind me of someone very close to my heart and I'm sure you know someone you can identify with:
I'm just a little girl lost in the moment
I'm so scared but I don't show it
I can't figure it out
It's bringing me down I know
I've got to let it go
And just enjoy the show
The song "Trouble Is a Friend" was featured in episode 5.08 of Grey's Anatomy as well as episode of 90210. The most moving song to me on the album is the admonition to "Live Like You're Dying" as we all are. So, "Use what's been given to you."
For those of you who need a label call this music Unfolk. Overall this is nothing less than one of the most enjoyable recording I've had the pleasure of listening to for more years than I wish to count. May I suggest that you have some fun with your life, get a copy of this CD and simply enjoy!

I really liked her songs the first time I listened, but as I heard them more and more they seemed to really grow on me. Personally I love Lenka and this CD, but like any CD you should listen to the songs before you buy it. I really think that it is a personal thing on whether or not you like this.... But I luv it! :)

Lenka is an amazing artist. Fantastic for all ages. I sent her song to my daughter in college as my song choice of the week, and she is now an avid fan. She amazing...taking music to another level.

I love each and every song. The music is light and uplifting even on her more serious songs. I also have to say that my teen daughters share my enjoyment. I have not enjoyed a cd this much since I was in my teens.
