Album Notes This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Personnel include: G. Love (vocals, guitar, harmonica, trombone); Ben Harper (vocals, guitar, Wurlitzer piano); Jack Johnson (vocals, guitar); Lateef The Truthspeaker, Blackalicious (rap vocals). Although G. Love has had trouble replicating the splash he made with his 1994 debut, that hasn't stopped him from slowly and steadily releasing albums while honing his laid-back blues/hip-hop/rock amalgam. In fact, by 2006's LEMONADE, G. Love sounded more confident and focused than ever, incorporating his diverse influences into a cohesive whole without ever sounding strained. LEMONADE boasts some of G. Love's smoothest and most appealing songwriting; the breezy vibe of album opener "Ride" and the summer front-porch feel of the single "Hot Cookin'" are two cases in point. The instrumentation is still stripped-down and groove-centered, but guest appearances by Special Sauce (the artist's original backing band), Blackalicious, Ben Harper, and Jack Johnson (LEMONADE appears on Johnson's Brushfire Records) add sparkle to the down-home approach.
Editorial Reviews LEMONADE is G. Love's strongest album since the mid-'90s, with plenty of his charm and few well-timed guests. -- Grade: B Entertainment Weekly
