The Legend of Johnny Cash by Johnny Cash (CD, Oct-2005, Hip-O Records)

The recently released "Legend of Johnny Cash" compilation is the first single-disc collection to cover the legendary Man In Black's entire career. While it would take literally a half-dozen CDs or more to cover every important piece of music Cash has made, this compilation offers the basics and is an excellent overview of his most important and classic work. The legendary Sun records hits, "Cry Cry Cry", "Hey Porter", "I Walk The Line" and "Folsum Prison Blues" are included here as well as "A Boy Named Sue", "Ring Of Fire" and "Highwayman" (his collaboration with Country legends Kris Kristoferson, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson). Also included is Johnny's cameo appearance from U2's 1993 "Zooropa" album, "The Wanderer" and to close out the disc, there are several tracks from his American Records series with producer Rick Rubin including the final hit "Hurt" (originally by Nine Inch Nails).
With that said, "the Legend of Johnny Cash" is an essential collection and offers an excellent brief history lesson of his most acclaimed work. For the few who have never heard of Johnny Cash, this CD is an excllent introduction to his music. For everyone else, this is probably the best collection of Cash music to date.

I have never been a fan of country music. In fact I have disliked it very much. My mom on the other hand has always loved country music. She was very upset when Johnny Cash passed away. When this CD came out I went and got it for her right away. A few days later we took a 6 hour drive together. Well she just had to play her new CD in the car. By the time we got to the second song I was like ok this isnt that bad. At the third song I thought ok this is actually good. At the fourth song I was like this is really really good. At the fifth song I was in love with Johnny Cash and with country music. You just have to get this CD. No matter what type of music you like this CD is sure to win you over. This would also make a wonderful gift for that someone special in your life.

Although this has great songs of Johnny, the best CD I have found so far of Cash is The Essential Johnny Cash. It really has alot of the best, and a great value.

I purchased this item at Best Buy last winter. Also last year I received an iPod. Why am I telling you this? Because the iPod keeps track of how many times you play something and I have played songs from this Album literally hundreds of times.
While I do have my favorites like "I've Been Everywhere", "A Boy named Sue", "I Walk The Line", "Highwayman", and my personal favorite of the Album, "Hurt" every song is listenable. Can you say the same with lots of other CDs in your collection? I can't. This is sort of a "Best Of" to a person who truly does deserve the Title of the Album "The Legend Of...".
I was not a huge Johnny Cash fan as I have always been somewhat of a very closeted country fan but these Songs stand up well against time. They are little stories that depending on your mood can change meaning in an instant. I would whole heartedly recommend this to anyone wheather they like country or not because some of these songs make those lines blur, for instance "Hurt" was origally recorded by nine inch nails but tells a story of sorrow and substance abuse, a battle Cash fought his entire life.
So this obviously gets a 5/5 in my book and I am sure if you listen to it you will feel the same way.

Best compilation of hits for Mr. Cash. Timeless music. Excellent CD. The Cash CD's available in stores was minimal and disappointing.

Ebay is the best place and price to purchase any CD. No need to try and find a rare CD at multiple stores... spending time and gas.

this is a great cd. It has all of Johnny cash's hits and then some. I listen to it a lot. If you are a Johnny Cash fan you will love this CD.

I have always liked Johnny Cash and his music. This CD was one I wanted and it was at a great price.

Good sale. The price was right. I had heard a song I liked on the radion and decided to look for the CD. I am happy with the product and the seller.

johnny cash is icon of music the man in black is an awesome song writter and singer this cd has some of his best hits and I bought it cause it was a great deal on a magnificent cd

If you like Johnny Cash but never really thought you'd buy one of his CD's then this is the CD for you. It has all of the really great ones along with a few you might not have heard.

I saw the remake of johnny cash and june carter life, and for years I was bringing upchildren, and so busy and unable to enjoy sitting down to listen to there or his music, and know who he/she was. they were fantastic singers, due to looking on ebay and finding this cd in perfect condtion." money well spent/and a good seller that was true to there word telling me the cd was in good condtion."

Great CD. Makes a good addition to a CD collection. The inside cover has a funny pic of Cash showing how he really felt at the time of the pic. Great song selection as well. It's the man in black, what else is there to say........

I love this cd...I just played it loud in the car(boze system) and it is awsome! Sounds like your right there with him. We listened to alot of Johnny Cash music growing up and I know my father (now crossed over) would have loved to hear this great collection!

I didn't used to be a Johnny Cash fan; however, I went with a friend to see "Ring of Fire" and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. After seeing "Walk the Line," I just had to get some Johnny Cash music. This is an excellent compiliation of music by a true music lengend, Johnny Cash. Worth the money!

This cd is awesome! Where can you find 21 of your favorite Johnny Cash songs that spand throughout his life. You can listen from song 1 to 21 without touching the cd player. If you like Johnny Cash then you will love this cd. I would give it a 10 out of 10! Let the legend live on.

I enjoyed the mix of the dark and the humerous. From the Nine Inch Nails-Cover Hurt to One Piece at a Time. A well recorded classic and unexpected songs. Well Done!!!
