Learn to Read with Phonics - Volume 3: Sight Words/Reading and Counting (DVD, 2005)

I bought the DVD because my daughter is in 1st grade and I thought this would help her. She liked the DVD and Mrs. Phipps at first but quickly became board with it after only two times of viewing parts of it. It was produced over ten years ago and the production quality suffers - very rudimentary style and content. The way that the material is presented in a similar manner to a teacher at a white board in a classroom, only with a furry character (another person dressed up in some sort of hairy creature costume with a static face on the stomach) sitting at the teacher's side who interjects occasional grunts and incoherent noises. The cover is deceiving since there is no useful entertaining animation or small children. The entertainment comes from the few older children who are staged to act out some of the words or lessons. The problem being that my daughter was initially drawn to the DVD because of the small children and bright colors, of which there are neither. Also, the claim to teach sight words is slightly misleading since there is only a minor focus at best on any of the required sight words. If your child really loves to watch TV and you want something educational, at least this DVD is presenting worthwhile subject matter. Not all bad.

This dvd seemed to be sub par. My 4 year old liked it, oddly enough. It talks a LOT about candy, coke, chips, and junk. The 2 boys in the dvd push eachother down. The kids act disrespectful (ex:"Don't have a cow, MOM!"), and the Mom acts like the kids are a nuisance...It does have some teachable points, but I think my daughter was more intrigued by the kids' and Mom's behavior than anything. She even said, "Look Mama, that little girl hit her Mama!" Nice, huh? I would not reccomend this dvd.

My daughter liked this dvd. It has helped her with her reading. She has struggled alittle bit with reading. This dvd was very basic and helped her with beginning blending sounds. Would like to get others.

We just love the DVD! My son really enjoys watching it and I think he can really learn a lot from it! Thanks so much!

Not what I expected from this purchase. Movie is a less then B movie. My daughter will not even sit to watch this for 5 minutes. She was bored with it. Deffinatly not satisfied.

Hokey, boring...made in the 80's. There are plenty of good educational dvd's out there, but this isn't one of them!

I don't like this DVD and neither does my daughter. Doesn't hold her attention. The woman who talks in it is boring. I do not recommend.

I did not receive my order and did not receive a refund. I'd be willing to change my review if I hear from the seller concerning my purchase.

I wasnt very happy with this, my kids are special needs and it did not capture their attention at all, maybe later, or I will pass it on to a teacher.
