Movie Description
Since the 1930s, religious congregations have been incorporating the joyful sounds of the steel guitar into their ceremonies. Along with his brother, Darick Campbell has used his eight-string lap steel guitar skills to bring the excitement of this African American gospel music to wider audiences. Here, Campbell teaches his unique style through traditional gospel numbers such as "I'll Fly Away," "Walk with me, Lord," and "Amazing Grace." Campbell breaks apart the chord, bass, and melody sections of each song, so that viewers can tackle each part one at a time. In addition to explaining such topics as: vibrato, octave-licks, tuning, bar-technique, hammer-ons, and string blocking, Campbell also demonstrates how he gets his lap steel guitar to make that "singing" sound, by utilizing such tools as the wah-wah pedal, volume, and tone-controls. This instructional program also features play-along sections with backup by the Campbell brothers.
