Learn at Home (1999) 6th grade

This is a great curriculum source. It is 36 weeks of lesson plans with the 6 core subjects. There are reviews every 9th week. I have been using this series since my daughter was in Kindergarten. The book includes worksheets, weekly spelling lists/tests, and reading suggestions. Having the whole school year in one book, enables me to plan ahead and have support materials ready. Two factors that keep me from giving it an "Excellent" rating: Two subjects, Science and Social Studies, can get long winded due to the 9 week review system. My daughter LOVES bugs, but 9 weeks was even too long for her. (Now, before the school year starts, I go thru the books and 'crunch' topics and fill-in with other materials usually taken from the "What Your Xth Grader Needs To Know" series). The other problem is that since these books came out in 1999, some of the subject matter can get dated. This year, when the series was picked up by a new publisher and revised, I was hoping new materials would be included. Not one word was changed. Overall, I am still very happy with the series. It keeps me organized in that I can check off the subjects covered each day.
