Nothing special in SACD

The music is fine of course, but if you're expecting exceptional sound quality because it is an SACD, you'll be disappointed. I've found that SACDs and DVD-As vary wildly in sound quality; Steely Dan's "Gaucho" DVD-A and Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" SACD being exceptionally good for example, while this "Layla" in SACD and Trey Anastasio's solo DVD-A are completely underwhelming at the other end of the scale. Interstingly, Clapton's "Ocean Blvd" SACD is just fine. Go figure! I've been stocking up on discs in both formats to feed my Lexicon player, and when they're good they are the format of choice for sure (especially in surround) ; but given the spotty consistency of my collection to date, I'm afraid the overall failure of these formats is not really surprising.
