Law and Order - The Second Year (DVD, 2004)

LAW & ORDER used to be the best cop and crime show around...The first year,in which long time regular Chris Noth was paired with George Dzunda,was THE best...Gritty,uncompromising,and absent all of the political correctness,and gender parity that came later..This is the second year,in which Paul Sorvino replaced Dzunda,who had left the show..The grit was still evident,and the show had not yet been turned into a politically correct,gender correct mess..Sure,the show has lasted for seventeen years,and Jerry Orbach's excellent contributions had yet to surface,but these two seasons,#1 & #2,were the very best...So what if there weren't a lot of women stars?We are talking about the NYPD,still a very male oriented system,and the manhatten district attorney's office,not exactly a hotbed of feminism..Alas,after these two seasons the Teevee powers-that-be decided to replace reality with fantasy,dumping Dann Florek,who played the police captain,in favor of F.Epatha Merkinson,a black female..talk about your wishful thinking..I can think of about a dozen real female police honchos in the REAL NYPD,and only two of them are black,and none of them work out of Manhatten..but teevee requires "diversity"rather than reality..Then they dumped"Robinette"the male black Assistant D.A. in favor of what has proven to be a long line of white females,once again showing that Hollywood is more interested in portraying fantasy ..The plotlines have become weaker,the acting more routine...But this set still had what it takes,even if,afterwards,the program went steadily downhill

How can you not like anything part of the Law and Order series. You will enjoy each episode asking for more. The storylines are what make the show, the cast of that particular season just defines it a little more.

The Jerry Orbach ones are the best because of his wit.

I am partial to the SVU series, but you have to start with these to really get into the mood.

My wife turned me on to Law and Order while we were dating and I'm hooked. Even though I have a legal background I find this superb unlike many law shows.

I love the Law and Order Series. I would like to collect the whole set of DVDs. I find them very expensive in the stores. I found this one, at a very reasonable price on Ebay. It is used but in very, very good condition. I have not experienced any problems with it. I am happy and satisfied. I plan to purchase future DVD sets and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase any other DVD through Ebay.

Just a heads up to anyone looking to buy any of the double-sided Law & Order DVD sets: Universal has been notorious for poor manufacturing quality of their DVDs. 2 of the 4 seasons I've bought brand new have had manufacturing defects and episodes that would not play. It would seem Universal (despite charging a mint) cheaped out in the manufacturing process it uses. I have read elsewhere of people having similar problems with Universal's double-sided DVDs.

My advice is to stay away from any new/sealed sets for seasons 2-4. Instead, buy used and contact the seller to make sure they've played all the discs. In this rare case, it's better to buy "pre-owned" in order to know for sure that there is no manufacturing defect.

I just can't get enough of all the Law & Order series. Season Two features Paul Sorvino who was terrific but only lasted a year. It's interesting to watch Christopher Noth's character mature over the years. It's a winner!

Law & Order at its finest! The second year has great cases and great acting, making it a must for fans of the show. Highly recommended if you've only been watching the more recent seasons, without ever seeing the early episodes. Get it today!

Thi season has my favorite episode. "Asylum" staring Chris Noth and Paul Sorvino. It has my favorite character "Lemon Head" Christian Tatum. The scene where Lemon Head mimics Detective Logan is hilarious and worth the price of the whole series.
