Laurel Canyon (DVD, 2003)

Kate beckinsale is a fantastic actress and this is one of her earlier flicks and she delivers whats we've come to expect and I love her :)

If you live in L.A., or have spent time there, and you have had the opportunity to spend time in the canyon, it's a special place .. as depicted in the movie. The people (who are supposed to be based on Joni Mitchell and others) are real Laurel Canyonites - Frances McDormand is excellent as usual. The entire cast is wonderful. Great plot and excecution. Location shots are great - what a house!

This is quite an interesting movie. Sam just finished at Harvard and he and his fiancee Alex are going to look for an apartment in Los Angeles. Sam plans to work on his residency and Alex will be working on her dissertation. While they are looking, they decided to stay with Sam's Mom, Jane. Jane is a record producer in LA and just broke up with her long time lover, Ian. Ian has band and Jane is the producer of this new record. Alex is finding it very difficult to concentrate and work on her dissertation with Jane who spokes pot. Sam is spending quite a bit of time at the hospital working on this residency and is starting to get very interested in Sara.
