Album Notes Galactic: Theryl "Houseman" De Clouet (vocals); Jeff Raines (guitar); Ben Ellman (harmonica, tenor & baritone saxophones); Rich Vogel (keyboards); Robert Mercurio (bass); Stanton Moore (drums). Additional personnel: Roger Lewis (soprano & baritone saxophones); Donald Sylvester, Sr., Sullivan Wallace, Eugene Jackson, Jr., Theresa Andersson (background vocals). Recorded at Kingsway Studios, Magazine Sound Recording & American Sector, New Orleans, Louisiana. In keeping with the mood and feel of its first two albums, Galactic's LATE FOR THE FUTURE serves up yet another spicy gumbo of funk seasoned with a few other tasty ingredients. Teaming with Sonic Youth/Public Enemy producer Nick Sansano, the band explores the Medeski, Martin & Wood territory of instrumental flow and otherworldly grooves. Though not as deep in the pocket as Medeski, Martin and Wood, Galactic still keep the proceedings bubbling along as they dabble in the Latin-flavored jazz of "Running Man," a fusion of lo-fi breakbeats and raunchy blues in "Bobski 2000" and "Jeffe 2000," and raunchy improvisation with "Baker's Dozen." Complementing Galactic's instrumental prowess is vocalist Theryl de Clouet whose raspy vocal style on songs such as the psychedelic soul of "Thrill," and the smoky bar nuance of the simmering "Running Man," give an idea what The Meters might sound like with Wilson Pickett as a frontman.
