It's awash in heros
As a Texan, I was always intensely proud of the Heros of the Alamo but I have to admit that I was astounded at this tale of heroism in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. This story was heavily surpressed for many years because of the negative light cast on Adm. Bull Halsey when he left the scene of the battle on a wild goose chase.
Thank you, James Hornfischer, for bring us this saga of the men on board the relatively tiny destroyers and destroyer escorts who turned and charged into the teeth of the mightest battle fleet that the Imperial Japanese Navy had in the Pacific.
