In 2000, I traveled to all the Civil Battle Fields where two of my great great grandfathers fought. One for New York wounded at Gettysburg, Captured at James City,Prisons in Richmond and Andersonville. Paroled, exchanged and wounded at Petersburg two weeks before the end of the War.
The other one for Pennsylvania was sick and left in hospital at Winchester. Captured by Stonewall Jackson. Town changed hands 72 times in 4 years. Returned to duty and wounded at Spotsylvania Court House.
I went to Appomattox Court House at end of five week trip.
This was a great DVD that showed the places that ended the War with great explanations of that end.
