At Last by Cyndi Lauper (CD, Nov-2003, Epic USA)

I work in the activity department of a nursing home. A co worker put this on and said "Guess the singer". I could not, but immediately fell in love with the smokey, soulful vocals. The album is a collection of great classics, such as the Bacharach/David hit "Walk on By" and North/Zaret's "Unchained Melody". Album also includes "Stay", "If you Go Away", Don't let me be misunderstood", and "Making Whoopee".

One of the challenges I face at work is finding music I can play for my residents that is familiar enough to get their interest, yet not the same old same old, to bore both them and the others working around them. This is an album I personally love and play over again, and the residents sing along and enjoy the songs. I was a fan of Lauper's simpler tunes in the 80's, and very happy to find that there was real talent beneath the bubble gum pop lyrics of the day.

I would recommend this album for anyone needing a soulful romantic album, wishing a musically adept collection of old classic favorites, or for anyone wishing to bridge the generation gap with music.

And I thought Etta James did a hell of a job on 'AT LAST'.... Not to many singers can Bring me to Joyful tears with thier glorious voices, She Has Definitely Jumped up in my top 5! She can carry a note that to her seems like breathing, it comes naturally..MAKIN WHOOPIE' with Tony Bennett IS soo dang cute I love it! ..Cyndi's range in genre is incredible. As Usual I'm NOT Disappointed. In fact I'll Have to say this is the most played CD in my hjouse right now .A fan from day one!..Kudos Cyndi!!!

I liked the cover, and the past of this singer... Therefore I bought the album.
I was surprised, the entire CD was so pleasant.
I appreciate it and play it in the day and in the evening. In particular, I like At Last, Walk On By and If You Go Away. There are classing songs but ever fresh song.
I suggest to buy this CD if you like Cyndi voice and if you have no prejudice agains artist who cover old songs.

I knew Cyndi from the old neighborhood. She was a star when she was 18 and still is .....Great CD of classic songs.

I bought this cd after hearing a couple of tracks from a friend. A couple of good re-do's of some great old songs. Her soft approach is refreshing and new. But then she reverts back to her old style on others and it ruins it. If you really like Cyndi, then this will be a great cd for you.

These are some well selected songs from a very talented lady. I wish I could have been there when she recorded in the studio to have been an extra pair of ears. Having quite a bit of vocal training in my background I would have lightened her sound a bit. She is a vocally strong singer which is a credit to her talents but I felt the material needed less force of sound on some of it. But I do look forward to cyndi's next album-

I had high expetations of her performing these standards but was greately disappointed. Her interpretations were not enjoyable. Only selection I enjoyed was "La Vie En Rose." Too bad. She has the voice, but not the presentation.

Not your typical Cyndi Lauper CD. At Last is one of my favorite songs which is why I purchased the CD - I wanted to hear someone other than Etta James sing it - Sorry, Cyndi, Etta is still the best--you come in second.

Cyndi has done an excellent job of interpreting these classic songs on a personal level. Listening to it, you can imagine sitting at the edge of the piano and listening to just her singing and playing. Love it.

lOVE IT! I'VE ALWAYS LIKED CYNDI LAUPER BECAUSE SHE'S QUIRKY AND HER OWN WOMAN. SHE'S STILL A GREAT TALENT AND PUTS HER OWN UNIQUE SPIN ON THESE TUNES. GREAT SUNDAY MORNING LISTENIN'!!
