Album Notes Personnel: Christine Wu (violin). Recording information: Sugarhill Studios, Houston, TX. THE LAST CHAIR VIOLINIST casts light on Houston rapper South Park Mexican, five-plus years into his 45-year sentence (and for a crime unlikely to elicit much sympathy), as he comes to terms with the mess of his life and the reality of his situation. It's a searing pain, an earth-shattering sadness, that comes through on the mournful, haunted record, his second post-incarceration. Tracks like "Swim," the title track, and "The Ghost," emanate loss with a dark eloquence on the MC's most mature record to date. It's not an easy listen (it rivals the Geto Boys for sheer horror), but it's a stirring portrait of a dream decapitated.
