Heavy Reading, Just Like the Coins.
Review created: 02/10/07(updated 02/20/07)
John Davenport is the title author despite the above title description. This book is 192 pages in length. Printed on a very heavy stock and glossy too boot, combined to make this a heavy book to tote around. Very large detailed pictures of coins from the 16th to 19th centuries. Technical in nature, in that the book gives the denomination, inscription and weight. Most coins do not have any kind of history behind the issue. While there are no "values" associated with any of the coins, there is an appendix "Rarity Chart" at the back listing the coin by Davenport Number and then the rarity number (1-4 & a letter "C"). Bibliography at 1½ pages is almost as exciting. While technically informative, coin collecting is supposed to be fun and exciting, this book is neither.
