This game was some kind of response from Sega to Nintendo's Legend of Zelda.
And it was a nice response since this game became very popular due to it's unique features.
First of all it's an action RPG much like Zelda, however the figure of the main character, Nigel is much more "human-like" then Link..It's bigger and much more better animated. Nigel runs smoothly, jumps, swings with his sword. Everything in a high-framerate animation.
Second - the plot is awesome.Too long to say.Better check yourself.
Graphics are amazing.Colorful, bright, big models and greatly animated.
Music is absolutely nice. I still hear this "town theme" even though i last played game 10 years ago. Sound effects also nice.
Dungeons can really play on your nerves. They are LONG and HARD.And since you play in isometric view it's pretty hard to synchronise the moves and jumping around those floating platforms :) The puzzles are also great. There's a lot to think about.

This is freaking nice game. One of the best rpg games on Sega Genesis i assume.I completed it long ago, still i remember those remarkable days i sat all night through with a joypad...

  Landstalker (Sega Genesis)

This game is one of the greats for sega. Although it is a difficult game it's well worth the effort to play. I found it with instruction manual and case intact so I was happy to cut a deal with the seller. A game any collector would enjoy, highly recommended.

  Another Old Friend.
Review created: 07/02/08

This game was in excellent condition! I am 31 now, and I played it when I was about 16. I let my friend borrow my Sega Genesis with all of my games and sadly, she never returned it. I was never able to even finish the game. Well, a few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to purchase another (by this time vintage) Sega System. I was so excited. I went out and bought all of my old favorite games, this one being at the top of the list.

This game is so much fun! There are many twists and turns, caves and paths, it just seems like there is a secret around every corner!

  Landstalker
Review created: 08/06/07(updated 08/19/07)

Landstalker is a very strange rpg/adventure game for Genesis. The battles are real-time and incorporated into the overall movement system. Before and after beating this game I went through periods of both loving and hating it. The game includes some of the more difficult small puzzles of any Genesis game, their difficulty is only magnified by the control system, which has a very long learning curve because of the amount of precision the puzzles demand. This game has a storyline that I once again both love and hate, centering on adventuring for the pure purpose of finding treasure, which is not too interesting. However, the arch-villain in this game is one of the best ever created, who is convincing as a devious manipulator and appears at first to be quite honest and upright. The game also features some decent music, even a memorable musical cutscene as a character named "Ludwig" plays the piano for Mercator's court. Also, the individual stories and characters in each villages and town are unique and interesting. Once again, though, the ending was so disappointing I was forced to hate the game for the massive hours I spent on it's exhausting puzzles. The graphics are good for Genesis and the fighting is pretty entertaining. If you enjoy the old style of rpg, somewhat like Zelda, or enjoy interesting and difficult puzzles, this is definitely the game for you.

  Good idea, flawed execution
Review created: 06/14/07

Landstalker is a good game. Some may say a great game. But realistically, you must take the experience with a grain of salt.

First off, you need to get used to using diagonals on the controller. You have to press them constantly. You also need to get used to hitting B. B allows you to jump, and jumping is constant.

Gameplay: The gameplay is both great, and frustrating. The game builds in difficulty, and can be very fun, but many of the puzzles are insanely hard, but for all of the wrong reasons. Since the camera is static, you cannot always tell which platform you are jumping to. Sometimes, it will be a blind jump, which can be frustrating. The game is good, but for this reason, it is also deeply flawed.

Graphics: Decent for its time, and they hold up well. However, the whole TV is not used for the graphics, which can get annoying if you own an HDTV.

Sound: Decent sound, but nothing that will have you humming all day long.

Overall: VERY challenging, very fun, but with so many frustrating moments, the game is so close, yet so far, from being perfect. If the puzzles were not so unforgiving, this game would be stellar. As it is, it is very good, but nothing that someone should want to kill to own.

  Landstalker game for Sega Genesis

I bought this fantastic old game cartridge, box, and book, because it was my favorite game for the old Sega Genesis console years ago. My copy was stolen, so when I saw this one and the fact that everything was still with it, I was elated.

The 3-d Adventure With Its Own Twist
Review created: 05/13/06
by: drunkrusski -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Gameplay, puzzles, interesting characters, simple story

Cons:
Graphics are outdated, a little too simple a story, music is ANNOYING

I used to play quite a few games when I was in middle school, and my favorite was role playing games. This game was one I just accidentally picked up of the rental shelf, and after sitting down and playing for ten minutes realized how good of a pick I just made. Story The story is simple enough. You are Nigel, a treasure hunter that hears about lost treasure on an island far, far away. Of course, you being the greedy little elf that you are, decide that you should pay a visit to this island. You then get roped in to doing missions after missions, meanwhile discovering the back-story and the ..
