The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway by Genesis (CD, Sep-1994, 2 Discs, Atco USA)

This very early Genesis double album, with Peter Genesis still as the lead singer, and Phil Collins on drums and background vocals, is the best Genesis ever did. It cannot be categorized, as it was nothing like anything elsewhere. Some, who gave it only a flimsy listen, found it too odd, boring, etc. But, I guarantee that any real fan of progressive rock, will come back to it over and over again, liking and loving it more every single time. This has so much to offer, that years later you can still find new things, different chords, superb vocals, etc. This is for serious music lovers, those who will give it the time to breathe it in, and keep it there, ready to continue loving it more each time they listen. ABSOLUTELY SUPERB!!

This is a rare and special genesis album both uncommon and beautiful. It tells a complete story that each song helps explain. complex poetic lyrics and touching melodic sounds. This will be unlike any genesis album you know of, and become an instant must have for any one that hears it. As a music lover, this is an absolute have-to-have-it in my collection. I have worn out two copies and am thrilled to have a third! Do yourself afavor and pick this up. You will not be dissapointed.

Right on Time, Just what I was looking for. would use this store again is I was looking for somthing as random as the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.

I've been a die-hard Genesis fan since 1972, seen them many times in concert, including this album, & have had the privilege of meeting Peter Gabriel at one of his shows in the early 90's. I'd LOVE to say that this album, his final with Genesis, is the Apex, the Pinnacle, yadda yadda yadda. But it just ain't. There's certainly enough great music on it to have made a fantastic single album. But much of it seems padded & the lyrics have a sameness to them that gets rather monotonous & interchangeable. When I saw them perform this live, Gabriel sometimes got the lyrics out of order in a song, or the wrong lyrics for a song, & nobody seemed to notice. But hey, they performed this show 100 times. While not their best, it's still light years ahead of most of what 1974 had to offer.

Prog music often gets a bad name for being self indulgent. Personally, I appreciate self indulgent over commercial garbage so a lot of progressive music is right up my ally. The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway is no exception. Sure, it's probably too weird for most people but most people listen to boring garbage that causes their brain cells to hibernate or even sink into a permanent coma. I'm not saying that this CD is brilliant or super intelligent but I am saying that it is a work of art and it does keep those lazy brain cells awake. 5 Stars.

This is a great piece of music. I owned the album in my youth and blew up a speaker listening to "IT". No record player anymore so I wanted to add it to my CD collection. Glad I purchased it. It is as good as I remember.
