Album Notes Lake of Dracula was a short-lived Chicago band that issued only one album in its two-year existence. The self-titled set finds the quintet sonically exploring their love of no-wave punk and free-for-all dissonance. Guitarist Weasel Walter (The Flying Luttenbachers) shreds and contorts his axe as singer Marlon Magas sounds like he's crooning into a bucket of mud. Elsewhere the Manhattanite (aka Al, lead singer of US Maple) provides screeching, hog-the-spotlight backup vocals. It's a dense cacophony that Lake of Dracula commits to record, but one that would foreshadow the no-wave revival that, at the time of the album's 1997 release, was still years away.
Editorial Reviews ...furious avant-rockabilly, replete with discordant guitars, high-speed, indecipherable vocals and punishing drums... The Wire (03/01/1998)
