Lackawanna Blues (DVD, 2005)

I love ebay, but think sometimes the prices are pricey. I got to ebay because I don't want to go in the store and secondly I would prefer cheaper prices. However, because the prices are higher or just a few cents less then the store price it's sometimes better for me to go to the store. This particular item. Lackawana Blues CD was perfect, but other items, I may as well go to the actual store because I can touch, feel and actually see it if the cost is just a bit less on ebay. It may be worth going to the store instead.

Great movie. It shows the unity in the Black community during segregation. I loved this movie, and I am glad to add it to my movie collection.

This is an excellent movie with a great story line. I already had this dvd for my collection, and I allowed my sister to view my movie and she fell in love with it just like I did. So, I purchased this one as a gift for my sister.

Lackawanna Blues tell the story of a young man growing up, and his extending family. The story is very touching. It centers about the owner of a boarding house and her husband, played by Terrence Howard. There are also appearances by Maxie Grey and Mos Def. The story is very moving. It will tear at your heart.

This is a fantastic movie to see repeatedly. It has a fair mix of surprises, entertainment and electrifying moments all while educating you on historical facts and days gone by. You can be easily touched by this movie's emotional content and brazen characters--and the music is blend of blues, swing, jazz--you'll love how the different elements of this movie converge to tell a memorable and heartfelt story.

I first saw this movie at a friends place. I loved it so much I wanted to add it to my collection. The characters are lively, endearing and funny. Great music; great dancing; A really great movie!

Excellent movie!! It was a great depliction of the Black experience during that era. I enjoyed the different stories within the movie. Terrance Howard was at his best as usual. Besides him, there were several prominent Black actors portraying complex characters. Each with their own demons and issues.

Lackawanna Blues is film based in truth about Rachel "Nanny" Crosby a woman
who built a neighborhood and changed the lives of a lot of people and how she
came to have a son. This wonderful film with a cast the is just great. Lead by
S.Epatha Merkson, Terrence Howard, Carl Franklin, Rosie Perez,Jimmy Smits and
Jeffery Wright.

Great movie. It reminds me of some of the things I had when I grew up & some that I only wish I had had. I purchased this because I want to watch this again, it was just that well done. I own around a hundred movies on dvd, & usually buy the ones I REALLY like. S. Epatha Merkerson (Rita the mail lady on Pee Wee's Playhouse is nothing short of phenomenal in the role as "Nanny". A really excellent movie. Buy this movie!!

This is probably the best African American movie that was ever made. It depicts the struggles, racial strife that was very prevelant in this era.

I loved the movie! It's funny, exhilarating and moving. The story line was easy to follow and a great cast of characters!

I absolutely LOVED this movie! i know i have watched it at least 15 times just since i got it. Its a fantastic movie about life in the 50/60's and its a very clean movie. theres no real foul language, oh i heard ass 3 times but thats it. and the only violence was revelant. the characters are very enduring. even the scarey ones. the only bad thing about this movie was it could have been longer. now that i have this movie i introduce friends of mine to it and now they are fans also. i watch it every weekend. over and over. yes i have a life, its just that good of a movie.

I have always liked S. Epatha Merkerson in "Law and Order" and wanted to see how she performed out of the police setting. Merkerson pleasantly surprised me with the depth of her performance. She totally brought this band of misfits and castaways together in an extraordinary depiction of the story of Rachel "Nanny" Crosby. "Nanny" presents a strong love of family and true sense of community throughout the many trials and challenges thrust before her. She is the rock of that community and the pillar they all lean on when the need is there. All of this Merkerson very graciously and lovingly takes in stride and portrays effortlessly. I thought the story went quickly and certainly will watch this again with friends. Well worth the purchase!

I liked Lackawanna Blues because it represents black culture. So many of our young will never know what their past was like. Movies like Lackawana Blues help preserve the black culture.

the kind of film you'll watch over and over...This movie my wife watched, then told me about it and told me about it and told me about it. The word spread throughout the family. Now everyone in the family owns a copy. Great cast of well known actors. This one will surprise you... a GREAT MOVIE!!!

This is a love/tragedy story. I can't remember what decade it takes place maybe the 1930's or 40's, but it takes a truthful view of the life and struggles of African-Americans in the South. The cast is an excellent variety of well-known, as well as unknown actors. The setting, as well as the accounting of events is beautifully written. I had previously seen it at a friends house, who talks too much, but I knew I had to add it to my personal library.
