The Labrador Shooting Dog
Interesting training methods. Great book for how to train a dog to HUNT, instead of training for field trials, which is a bit artificial. Stories about dogs that the author has known were entertaining and informative. The author is very well respected for his insight into how a dog thinks and learns. The reason I didn't give it an "excellent" rating was his idea of good conformation and mine are far different, but that is more a personal opinion, than a negative comment about him. I just like a dog with a little more substance than the author does, so that it fits into the AKC standard for the breed. The standard was written many years ago by people who knew how a lab should be built in order to do the function it was intended to do. I would actually give the book about a 4 1/2.
