The follow up to LG's VX8100 this phone has been slimmed down and improved a bit in the looks department personal choice I prefer the silver more then the blue on the VX 8100
Pros on this phone Reception is VERY good I get signals everywhere and even in areas where I have had Zero bars of signal I could still make and receive calls with no problems. Hearing people has not been a problem on the VX8300 as it was on the LG VX8100 (the problem on the VX8100 was fixed with software version 7) I have had a few people ask me to repeat myself (perhaps they just have trouble hearing) bluetooth capabilities for this phone dont seem up to par with my LG VX9800 I have tried several times pairing up a Motorola HS820 with the VX8300 and it took a few tries before it Paired with the phone
even then it doesnt seem as good as the bluetooth on the 9800 or the VX8100
Perhaps this is a software issue with the phone and be fixed in future updates
The outer screen is ok and doesnt seem as crisp as the Outer LCD on the VX8100
You also Cannot read text messages from the front screen really not a big deal since you have to open a phone to respond to text messages anyway but Im sure some will find this a hindrance
the camera on this phone for a sub 2 Mpixel camera is very good IF your subject sits still but for a camera phone it does what it should and does it well this IS a PHONE after all

the battery life on the phone seems to be on par with what most CDMA phones get of course depending on your usage of text messaging listening to music, playing games and GASP using as a phone talking to people you should expect to get somewhere between 3 and 4 hours talk time and if you hardly ever use the phone right around 6 or 7 days

I did not have a Micro SD card so I couldnt try out the music features & Capabilities of this phone

Inside the phones main screen is bright but for some reason doesnt seem to be the same quality of the VX8100 in the menu section of the phone you have the Capabilities to change the Menu Themes from the Normal Verizon UI that is found of most their phones now
you can choose from The Normal Default Setting, Silver Spin, Pulse, Business, Tropical, and Blue
Which is nice to be able to change the Red Title bar found at the top of the screen of 99% of verizons phones to blue, green, or .... Keep it the boring Red
The Ringers are still the normal boring ones found on practically every LG that has been released the last 2 years Which is good for Verizon so they can force you to Buy Ringtones from their Wide Variety of partners using the Get it now service

The buttons on the phone are looking at the phone from the side appear flat but they are raised The Camera button is on the side of the phone and the speakerphone button stands alone no multi function use on it

Voice Activated commands work well and had no trouble understanding me when I said "my account" or send message to
although some friends with higher pitched voices had trouble getting it to understand them

This is a great LG phone with some nice add on features to the LG VX8100
is it worth upgrading to? Depends, if you can get it from Verizon cheap enough go for it otherwise I would stick with the 8100 or go with the LG VX9800
If you havent upgraded in a while and would like a great phone that wont disappoint the VX8300 might very well be your next phone

In my opinion, this is the perfect phone for someone wanting their phone and MP3s together. I love this phone! T

he microSD card is perfect! The fact that more memory can be added at your leisure is invaluable, plus it makes carrying your favorite music and pictures simple and fun. I put the microSD card in my camera, take great pictures and even videos, then switch it back to my phone so I can upload the graphics for wallpapers and startup videos. Graphic are very sharp on the inner screen, but the outer screen could have been made a little better.

The external speakers are very crisp and clear, but they do distort just a bit if turned all the way up. The distortion is not very noticeable, though. I use my phone at the pool and people comment on how loud and clear the music is. Someone across the pool from me actually sang along to a song once. I walked over to see how audible it was and I was very impressed!

Phone calls are clear and better than all of the other phones I've ever used. The color of the phone (gunmetal grey) is sleek and stylish while still being professional. Overall, I give it a 5/5.

Another nice LG phone for Verizon Wireless

This is a nice phone. I had an LG previously, and was seriously looking around at other brands (specifically the RAZR), and I am glad I purchased this phone. It has everything I want (and more than I know what to do with). If you are a feature-geek, this'll keep you busy for awhile. Great for music and photos and all that jazz. I, for one, do not use the camera for anything other than entertainment. Phones are not good cameras, and this is true with the VX8300. I like the look of this one - a bit different, but still a conservative package. The speakerphone is excellent quality. You can hear it very well and others can hear you, too, without ambient noise interruption. The screens, both, are clear - and the outside screen is really cool. The phone gets better reception than my old LG did. Battery life is good, too.

One thing I miss, ringtones. The phone came with barely enough to function. Obviously VW wants you to buy more ringtones from them! Oh, well, a small trade off for a fun phone that works great.

I highly recommend it.

Jeff

This phone is like a teenage kids dream come true. It is the most durable phone on the market that I have seen. I can't drop this thing enough times to break it. I pick it up and minus a few battle wounds it is no worse for the wear. I have had it for well over a year and cannot be happier. The service is great and the battery life is better than most phones i have dealt with.
I highly recommend this phone to anybody like me that can't hold onto their phone.

This phone is great, and even the old-fashioned plug-in headset is comfy and works like a charm for hands-free use. You can whisper in your car and the other party hears you but not other noise, which it filters really well. BAD NEWS: I dropped mine, when it was a few days old, into a cup of coffee. I fished it out IMMEDIATELY, and dried the battery. Alas, it was too late, and though I can talk on it I have no inside display and can only use voice dial. Can't take pix or flix, etc. So, enjoy, but like the pet magui in Gremlins, don't get it wet!

I Like the flexibility to use a headset and also Bluetooth. The phone is sturdy unlike the Motorola Razr that it replaced. The long talk time allows me to recharge the battery twice a week.

  LG VX8300 Almost the best
Review created: 12/04/06
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I would first like to state I love this phone, but there are a few things about it that I would love to see changed. Lets start with the good aspects - I get great reception, I love the mp3 player function, I love the camera, I love the color options (although the skins can be slower to load each page), and I love the GPS navigation feature.

Now the dislikes - the battery seems to get hot when talking on the phone or charging. Exchanged it for a new one, and still have the same problem. At that point talk time is shot and the battery drains quickly. Does anyone else have that problem?

Sometimes if I go to fast through the menus, or I am texting someone and it rings the phone gets confused and turns off, then back on. One again I was told that had been fixed. Mine has not been fixed after and exchange.

Other than those two things I highly recommend this phone. The extra micro SD storage card has saved me many times, although it would be nice if they included it in the package. The speakers sound pretty good for a phone, and the flash on the camera needs some work, but for better photos just bring your digital camera.

I would highly recommend this phone to anyone, and hope the battery problem is not a huge issue for anyone. This phone is great, and it should be getting cheaper as the newer phones come out.

Enjoy this phone it is really cool!

  LG VX8300---Great Phone, Great Features
Review created: 04/25/07
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

First off, its an all around great phone, MP3, Digi Cam, Video Cam. It has a loud external set of speakers on both sides of the phone. Also, it has voice/visual caller ID. The menu is pretty basic to navigate through. Had a bit of trouble with the SYNC feature at first when i wanted to put some songs on here but after i just installed the driver without the VZ music essentials it worked fine with my Windows Media Player 10. Has tons of different resolutions on the digi cam, and the video cam is quite excellent also(actually made a skateboard video while following a friend through the skatepark and was quite impressed after i transferred it to PC). Has screens on both front and inside to see who's calling and to access the MP3 player from the front is really sweet. I give this phone an A+. I had a few LG phones before and they were kinda of shoddy on the craftsmanship and i swore i would only use a Motorola from then on, but i got this one on an upgrade through Verizon and i think its a great phone.

Ringtones leave a lot to be desired, so if you are into that, you are going to have to shell out some money and pay for some tunes (this phone, at least with VZW, does not support MIDI themes that you can usually send to your phone via the web). Another useful feature with this phone is the VZ Navigator. I used it a few times with the free 30-day trial it came with and could definitely see using it again in the future. I don't travel that much, so I don't see the point in paying an extra $10 a month for it, but they offer the service to you in 24-hour blocks for as low as $2.50 a pop.

PROS
Excellent call quality
Rugged design for good durability
Easy-to-use menu design
Very good 1.3 megapixel camera
Speakerphone
VZ Navigator

CONS
Battery life (hasn't died yet, but it seems to drain a bit too quickly)
A bit bulkier in my pocket than my Samsung
Verizon disabled MP3 support
No free games

Lives up to LG's Standards and Quality
Review created: 01/15/07

4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This Phone is the perfect combination of Substance, Size, Stlye, Easy of use. The phone has just about anything you could ask for from a phone. The Audio Player is setup to use WMA files syncronized through Windows Media Play with the puchase of a Music Essentials Kit. You can get around this by enabling the MP3 Player function in the service menu and reassign the front buttons to activate it instead of the Audio Player. You retain all the VZW Media Player functionality in doing this. The phone has great battery life and can get you through a day of high volume calling using the bluetooth headset and a little music listening aswell.

As with most LG phones the vibrate function almost defeats the purpose by causing almost as much noise as the ringer. The upside to this, is that you know you will feel it almost eveytime. The Ringer is loud and clear, notifying you of a call effectively. The internal memory of the phone is about 35 megabytes giving you room to store your ringers, pictures, and videos. It also has the added functionality of a MicroSD Slot allowing increased capacity for songs, pictures, and videos.

The Reciever sensitivity is less than I expected on this phone but it will still do the job, just not in the remote locations that some may visit were network coverage is spotty.

With the added feature of EV-DO, this phone is offically a V-Cast Phone, allowing you to enjoy mobile content on the go anywhere within the V-Cast coverage area. This can greatly enhance the enjoyability of the phone. Overall I give this phone a 4 out of 5 simply because I find Motorola Phones to be superior to other phones. I am reviewing this phone because I have owned it for about 4 weeks but then returned to my Motorola E815 simply because it will work in the places that I need it to.

A great phone for the kids or anyone looking for an inexpensive multimedia enabled phone.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask and I will assist you to the best of my ability.

  Great Phone, slim design
Review created: 01/11/07
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

As a former VZW employee, I am going to give you just the good and the bad of the phones, not long indepth reviews but the basics for making a good decision.

LG VX8300

Pros:
Modern layout and functions
Slimmer than the 8100
music player
1.3 mp cam takes good pix
memory card slot
sweet slide design
good bluetooth
Great size

Cons:
OK so the only con I see is that they took away the ability to read your txt messages from the front screen(as with the 8100) and every once in a while the phone would freeze (not often though)

Bottom line:
I love this phone. Owned one myself, got it the week it came out. My brother has one also and he loves it. You cant go wrong with this phone.

I have owned cell phones from the day of the big box cell phone. I have to admit that this is the best phone I have owned. The VX8300 is compact and ready to take being dropped. You can download and play video clips with V CAST, and for those hard of hearing the dual speaker will be your salvation. If you are looking for a great phone at a super value - you have found it. By the way Verizon is the most reliable carrier I have used. I trust this review was helpful?

Verizon wireless LG VX8300 Good Upgrade
Review created: 06/08/07

This phone is an excellent upgrade to the VX8100. It receives better, and has better sound quality than it's predecessor. It also seems to get a better signal, (I drive cross country and have more coverage than before). Most options are the same as before, but they just seem to work better. I suggest a large capacity battery and at least a 512 mb sd card for memory if you use the camera or MP3 player.

I had it for 7 months never had a single problem. This is the only phone I regret selling it to save for my PS3. Very easy programming, no drop calls in my apartment. Everyone could hear me on the Speaker Crisp Clear. Very easy to program I never open the User Guide or needed to play the CD.

As of today this phone is still selling eBay for a high good price.

Features: Bluetooth Enabled, Calendar, e-mail, Internet Browser, MP3 Player, SMS-Text Messaging, Speakerphone, Unlocked

  These phones are crap!
Review created: 04/20/07
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

My husband and I both got this same phone. After he had been using his for about 7 months (and handling it with kidgloves), it started shutting itself off at the slightest bump and soon it wouldn't come on at all. About a week after his stopped working, mine started doing the same things with the addition of some other problems. When plugged in to charge, the screen would show the message "Use genuine battery" and I was using the original, genuine battery that came with the phone. Other times, I can plug it in and it says "Battery needed for charge" or "No battery" when there is, in fact, a battery there. I currently have a Motorola ordered and I can't wait until it arrives!!!

LG8300 Good but couldve been better
Review created: 04/16/07
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I bought this phone due to my old LG VX8100 breaking....This phone is better than the old LG 8100 but at the same time not as good. I like the color of the 8300 alot better. They also slimmed it down since the old version was way to thick. I like that they still kept the desighn the same on the phone not changing too much. The LCD on the front is definitely a downgrade from the 8100. Not as bright and not as clear as the old one. Still you can see all of the icons and the wallpaper you choose. I miss not being able to read texts on the front of the cell phone. It was nice not having to always open the phone to read them but LG decided to take that away on this one. Also I dont know why LG dont make the front button light up like the 8100 did. And the arrow on the front of the LG 8100 you could press the middle one which would turn the back light on to check the time, missed call ect... Lg took that away from the 8300. Bluetooth seems to work good for the time I have owned it. I connected it and the quality seemed to be about the same. Bettery life seems to be longer. I have had it on for a couple days and talked on it and its at 2notches still. 8300 takes micro sd cards now instead of the regular. Dont know exactly what the different is. The speakers for music sound a bit clearer and louder on the 8300. I also like the options to change the menue style to a digital look or change the color scheme to something other than just red. All in all this phone is good. I wish that they would have kept some of the better features that the 8100 had to offer onto this one. But still the Lg 8300 is a good upgrade, its all about personal choice. Lg is shooting cells out like no other the 8600 is already out and now the 8700 is going to be making an appearance. I think if you lg 8100 works fine dont think about upgrading untill its time. If your looking for an upgrade and you liked the 8100 alot give the 8300 a shot if not try out the new 8600 for Razor enthusiats

  VX8300 is great if upgrading.
Review created: 04/03/07
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I received my VX8300 FREE thanks to Verizon's new-every-two policy. I was looking for a all-around decent phone that was newer. I didn't quite care so much about the features but this phone has quite a bit.

The phone has a built-in MP3 player with stereo stound provided by dual speakers on either side of the case. Additionally, the speakerphone also provides full-duplex sound from these speakers. I find the speakerphone is sometimes difficult to hear and understand in anything but a library-like environment.

The phone also has bluetooth capababilities. I have found the bluetooth is kind of lacking as is with most LG phones. I haven't had the opportunity to use the hands-free or bluetooth headsets but different reviews online have shown that on occasion calls will be directed back to the handset while talking on a hands-free device.

The phone provides a MicroSD memory port to store pictures, videos, sound and music. They can easily be purchased at about $20 for a 512 MB chip. This is more than enough for a few hours of music or several pictures and video.

The browser is WAP 2.0 compatible and surfing the internet is somewhat easy. I find that the main screen though can be difficult for internet usage when compared to something like a Blackberry or Trio (which is to be expected). I also think that the phone lacks the functionality to allow the browser to use the MicroSD card as a temporary memory location. The phone can use up the memory too quickly on graphically intensive websites and will show very little of the sites graphics.

The battery lasts a while when you don't use bluetooth, internet or speakerphone/mp3 player. Otherwise it's quite a long lasting battery. I have gone 2 days without charging with minimal talking. I usually charge the battery nightly because I use the internet a lot at night and it drains the battery with the LCD screens on.

The main screen and front screen allow you to use your own pictures as wallpaper and even allows animated wallpapers. There is also an option to change the colors of the menus. The main screen is quite large and is easy to view. The front screen is a tad smaller but it contains much of the information as the main screen so you don't have to open the phone.

The camera is astounding for a cellphone. It has a better capability than my normal digital camera. It features 1.3 mexapixels and up to 1280 x 960 resolutions. It also has a flash, 4X zoom, timer, brightness and white balance, color effects (b&w, sephia) and night mode. The build in video recorder with audio has a 4x zoom and 176x144 non-changeable resolution. The video resolution can be better and it's not really that great for anything you'd want to see again on a computer. It can be a tad grainy.

The built-in MP3 player is quite easy to use and you can either put MP3's from your home computer onto the MicroSD card or download them using the VCAST feature. Something not in the user manual though is to press and hold the front PLAY button and it will start/stop the MP3 player without opening the phone.

The phone has EV-DO and standard signals that it receives. I have noticed that when transitioning from an EV-DO available location to a non-EV-DO available location calls are dropped.

All-in-all this is a professional yet practical phone. It does have some shortcomings with the bluetooth technology but overall the phone is very useful and has many features.

LG VX8300 (Verizon Wireless) BEST FOR THE MONEY
Review created: 02/19/07

This is my second LG phone and both of them have held up VERY well. I had a compact Motorola phone prior to these LGs and it was always breaking. I HIGHLY recommend this phone. All functions are easy to use and the Bluetooth works flawlessly. The speakers are clear and work well. I also think Verizon Wireless is the best wireless company. I live in rural Northwest Florida and I dont have many signal problems. I was with three other wireless carriers before Verizon and none had the service that Verizon does. They are the BEST.

I received my VX8300 on 11/22/06 and after just a couple days of use I already love this phone. This phone is an upgrade from a three year old LG phone (which I had zero problems with). When I got the 8300 I was instantly impressed with its looks, weight, quality and ease of use. For those who don't know, you can preview songs before buying them and download them in less than a minute. The sound quality is outstanding, and there is even a memory card slot so that you can add more memory to hold hundreds of songs. To play your music, just press the play button on the front cover and the music starts. The only knock that I have on the phone is that it seems as though LG has regressed in the battery charging compartment. My old phone had a charging cradle, and with my extra battery I would never be out of commision for more than a few seconds. The 8300 has a small soft rubber plug (that will be prone to being dropped and lost) that you must remove in order to connect the charging cable. Should this prevent anyone from buying this outstanding phone, I think not. LG makes very good products and this one is no exception.
