I bought this phone to replace the despised Samsung a850 that the cellphone company foisted off on me. I work in an area where reception and transmission is difficult, and was tired of dropping calls. I couldn't find any reliable information for comparing one phone to another in this regard, so I chose a phone to match that of a co-worker who was happy with his cellphone performance.

I'm happy, too. This LG works much better than the Samsung, and the battery life is good. The radiation exposure is lower than that of the Samsung, but not really stellar. Information for that criterion was easy to find by typing Cellphone Radiation Chart into a search engine.

pros vs cons- best phone with no bells and whistles
Review created: 02/11/07
11 of 11 people found this review helpful.

Pros:

1. Clear, loud sound for both the caller and the listener. No complaints of any sound being "too loud" or "too soft." CRYSTAL CLEAR sound on the Verizon network!

2. Clear, bright easy-to-read, large font screen that is fully adjustable and customizable for those who want a smaller font. Outside screen is also very easy to read and very informative.

3. Menus are simple, easy-to-use, and informative.

4. Voice commands are superb and work everytime even WITHOUT training.

5. Bluetooth communication is literally perfect with my Jabra VBT135 headset. Sound and clarity are the best I've heard.

6. Speaker phone is clear, loud, and reliable with little or no static at all.

7. Icons on screen easy-to-understand, and informative of the current status.

8. GPS Navigation...a feature that blew me away on this phone. The phone will ACCURATELY actually TELL ME where I am and where I need to go anywhere in the USA. Why spend $500 to get that fancy navigation system??? (Costs extra for Verizon...but worth it when I use it.)

9. Battery life is superb with hours of talk time even via Bluetooth!

10. Build quality is first rate, with no squeaky hinges, no loose parts. Every piece is tightly manufactured and put together on this phone.

11. Extremely lightweight...I barely even feel it in my pocket!

Cons: NONE

Bottom Line: The perfect phone for those who don't need all those media features!

This phone has great features. The battery life is why I bought the phone. It last longer than any of my previous phones. I usually have to charge it every three to four days. It has gone longer. If I don't used the phone much. I also use the bluetooth headset, which does shorten the battery, but not by much. It held a battery to the phone specs. Most of my other phones would not do this. I always had two batteries and a car charger to keep them charged through the day.

LG VX5300 hands down over Motorola Razer
Review created: 05/15/07

I love that it fits in the palm of my hand, is easy to navigate and most importantly, it works!! I was so disgusted with the Verizon Motorola Razer, which came brand new from Verizon, but never did work. The LG gets a little hot on the cheekbone when used for a long period of time, which is a bit worriesome, but all of the keys work!!!!!! YEA!

  LG Makes Great Phones

Had an LG510. Loved it. Broke it (not fault of phone). Bought another LG510 off eBay. Was happy with it, also. Decided to upgrade to get bluetooth & camera. Bought a Samsung from Verizon. Garbage. Took it back and got LG VX5300. Superphone! Had it about 6 months. Four days ago, dropped it in 6 feet of water in a lake. Fished it out after about 5 minutes. It did not work (I was not surprised, of course). I plugged in the AC charger to it to generate some internal heat, and placed it on top of my PC's warm-but-not-too-hot WD 120GB hard drive. And after about 24 hours, tried it. It worked OK as a phone, but big LCD screen would not work. Left it on charger and HD for another 48 hours. Now EVERYTHING works perfectly, including both screens, and the CAMERA! Unbelievable, but true. It will probably take four or five more nights on the charger and on top of the hard drive to make sure that it is throughly dry inside (so that mold/mildew does not form and short out the circuit board traces). The only complaint, if any, that I have with the VX5300 is that the earphone outlet's sound volume is not quite as loud as my old ear would like for it to be.

A good, not great, VZW tri-mode camera phone
Review created: 03/07/07
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

My fiancee & I recently bought new phones. I had an LG VX6100, she had the 4500. When it was time for new phones, we went for the 5300. The main features that drew me to this phone were the similarities to the 6100, and the addition of bluetooth so I could get a wireless headset for talking while I drive. Not long after we got the phones, she dunked hers in the washing machine & it quit working. After checking on buying a new one (retail prices on wireless phones are nothing short of OUTRAGEOUS), I spent a few days tracking some used phones on ebay. I found another 5300 at a great price, and when we got it, it looked & acted like new. We are very happy with the purchase, and I would recommend both this item & the seller to other buyers.

Quick overview of the phone - if you've used an LG flip phone before, you will know how to use this one. I liked the controls & menus a little better on the 6100, but it's not much of a change. The tri-mode feature works great on this one, since I live in a rural area. Much better than the 6100 & the Audiovox I had before that in this respect. The camera is so-so - it works and you can send pix messages, but it's nothing great. The size is right and the battery life is ok. The bluetooth feature, I've been having trouble with for about two weeks, and I don't know if it's the headset or the phone.

The main gripes I have with the phone aren't really specific to the phone but more about the cell phone industry in general. The phones they sell today clearly are not meant to last a full two years, and while this one is working great and nothing's wrong with it, there's nothing to suggest that it's a better product than all the other free-with-a-$50-mail-in-rebate phones out there.

I have had several cell phones and I by far LOVE this one!!! It is light weight and simple however it is indistructable!!! I dropped mine plenty and it didn't fall into 10 pieces like other cells do. Verizon is awesome with it's ring tones come in clear with this phone and the camera is extra sweet. It has flash, zoom and the pics are cute and clear! I would highly recommed this phone to anyone I was super satisfied!!!!!

I went to a verizon dealer to buy a cell phone and found unless your have insurance or changing your plan prices are very high. I found the phone I thought I would like and returned to a search on ebay. There were many phones but decided this is the one I wanted. I bid and won the phone. I have used many times sience receiving and works great. I would recommend this phone to anyone who doesn't need fancy just a working phone.

  LG VX5300
Review created: 02/25/07

THE GOOD: The LG VX5300 is a simple and lightweight flip phone that features a VGA camera with a flash, a speakerphone, analog roaming, and a Web browser. It also has an easy-to-use keypad and excellent call quality.

THE BAD: The LG VX5300 has a rather boring design, and we aren't fans of the camera's picture quality.

THE BOTTOM LINE: The LG VX5300 is a fitting entry-level camera phone for those who don't want a lot of frills but do want excellent call quality.

The LG VX5300 is the latest in Verizon's offerings of entry-level camera phones. While it has an unassuming appearance, it delivers the goods in terms of a simple feature set and great call quality. The VX5300 also supports analog roaming, which increases the likelihood of getting cell phone reception in more rural areas. This LG flip phone retails for $119.99, but you can get it for $69.99 with a two-year contract.

Design is clearly not the objective of the LG VX5300. Its silver and gray casing isn't unattractive, but it doesn't stand out as too appealing either. However, we did appreciate its compact and lightweight form factor (3.51 by 1.87 by 0.94 inches; 3.28 ounces), and found we could slip it in and out of our pockets with ease. Slightly oval and pebblelike in shape, the VX5300 felt comfortable in our hands as well as next to our ears. The VX5300 also has a stubby antenna on the top. Opening and closing the phone was a snap, requiring minimal effort.

On the front flap is the 1-inch diagonal OLED external screen that displays 65,000 colors. It shows battery and signal strength, the date and time, and caller ID, and it functions as a self-portrait viewfinder when camera mode is on and the phone is closed. It doesn't display photo caller ID, however, which is disappointing. You can also swap out the wallpaper of the external screen. The camera lens and flash is located above the screen. The left spine is home to the volume rocker and a voice command key, while a dedicated camera key lies on the right spine.

Flip open the phone, and you're presented with a 1.8-inch, 262,000 color TFT display. Bright and colorful, the screen is very easy on the eyes. You can adjust the backlight timer, the font size, and the clock format, but you can't change the brightness or contrast. As for the navigation controls, there are the standard two soft keys, and a five-way toggle that doubles as four user-customizable shortcuts with a middle confirmation key, the send key, the clear key, and the end/power key. Right underneath the navigation array is the dedicated speakerphone button as well as the dial pad. We were very pleased with the arrangement of the keys; they were well spaced, and while the buttons felt smooth, they were slightly rounded and raised above the surface, which made for easy dialing.

I love this phone. The reason why I got this phone was 1)It's small size 2)bluetooth 3)digital camera 4)voice recognition dial 5)price 6)long battery life 7)simple to use. Additonally, you can buy software so that you can actually upload and download ringtones, pictures, and music to this phone.

I bought this cell phone because my granddaughtewr accidentally dropped her new LG VX 5300 phone in the toilet as it was flushing and it disappeared. I got a good price on the phone and purchased a warranty. The phone was as described, new in the box. We had the phone activated and everything was fine.... for 3 days. The phone stopped working in the middle of viewing a picture. It turns on and the keys light up, but it freezes at the Verizon Wireless screen. Since I bought it off of Ebay, I had no mfr. warranty and the after market warranty I purchased does not cover failure in the first 60 days. I do not blame the seller and this is my first bad Ebay experience, but it looks like I wasted about $140.00. For another $60.00, I could have had a new phone with a mfr. warranty. I gambled and lost.

  EXCELLENT BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!
Review created: 01/01/09

I bought this phone as a replacement phone for my husband. He started off with an LG Chocolate phone but he works in an environment where he is constantly fixing things. He has to crawl underneath machinery, on top of machinery, and in between machinery. He also has to have his phone handy. Needless to say his Chocolate didn't last too long.

This phone is perfect for the guy who tends to be a little hard on his phone or can't necessarily keep it in a safe location. If you're in construction, a mechanic, the outdoors type... then this phone is perfect. It's suspectible to being dropped, scratched, occassionaly kicked (by accident) and keeps on ticking.

I strongly recommend it!

I have had my same phone with no problems at all. I have always had a problem with dropping my phones and this phone has been dropped plenty of times. I still do not have any problems with it. It has been over a year of rough treatment and it keeps on working. LG has made a great phone.

I like the fact that the phone is heavier than the newer phones. it seems sturdy and able to roll around in the bottom of my purse without breaking or scratching.
I bought it because it has good reception and is inexpensive.
I don't text message or take a lot of pictures. My kids say it is
geeky because of the antenna stub. I personally don't care what my
phone looks like. I want good reception.

My 14 year old Son had one of these phones before, for about 2 years. He averages 8,000 text messages per month, so I decided to buy a back up phone in case the buttons wear out on the one he has. The original phone is still plugging away. I am amazed at the durability of this phone.
