I've been using the LG Dare (also known as the LG VX9700) by Verizon for about 2-3 weeks and I love it!!

I was debating between several phones, but I chose the LG Dare because it is a good size (not to big, not too small), lightweight, has the best camera (3.2 megapixel), and has the virtual Qwerty keyboard.

Pros:
Perfect Size
Lightweight
3.2 megapixel camera (with flash)
Virtual Qwerty
100% Touchscreen
Customizing for many shorcuts
GREAT Battery life

Cons:
Took a couple days to figure things out (i.e. the Media shortcut actually takes you to the pictures and sounds)
Getting used to the touchscreen
Might be too complicated for older users (wouldn't get it for my grandparents)

When you first get the phone, you have to do the initial programming (*228) and then you have to do a calibration for the touchscreen. Just touch the screen at the center of the marked point.

The phone has been great!! Love the touchscreen, the weight, the ease of use once you get used to it. One thing to watch for is that sometimes a touchscreen button may not do what it's supposed to do, even though it makes the noise to say you touched the screen. The cause could be that you didn't have the right pressure or that you didn't do the calibration quite right. You can recalibrate the phone anytime. Just go to the "Seting and Tools" and scroll down to the "Touch Settings" and look for the "Calibration" button. Follow the calibration steps and you're done!!

One cool thing is that the charger doubles as a USB cord. That means you can charge the phone through regular outlets or connect it to your computer through the USB and charge it while you sync the phone.

Anyway, love the phone and would recommend it to anyone who loves new technology, touchscreen phones, or texting.

LG Dare, Worth it or not?

I personally love the LG Dare and when comparing it with the Iphone and the Instinct this phone is my favorite. It truly does have an amazing touch screen and the nice buttons are large enough you dont even need a stylus. It has a very nice design just between the Iphone and the instinct. Not quite as long as the instinct and not as wide as the Iphone. I really love its looks as the screen goes all the way to the edges and it actually has nice send and end call buttons at the bottom. And unlike the Iphone the Dare has a removable battery so you can keep a spare. I really love the software as it is easy to use and reacts fast after you touch a button. The camera on it is great and takes nice 3 megapixel photos and the video was really impressive, better than any other camera phone I have seen in the past. The instinct has a mediocre camera and the Iphone doesnt even have a camera all though apple fans will still choose the Iphone. the dare also has a decent price tag compared to the Iphone anyway. As far as the Instinct goes they are close competition but I still choose the LG Dare.
Thanks for reading and be sure to click "yes" if this review was helpful.

While the LG Dare doesn’t look like what you’d expect a cell phone to look like, it definitely lives up to its name. This cell phone dares to look different without sacrificing on functionality and usability. It has all the high-end features you’d expect: 3.2-megapixel camera, touch-screen, stereo Bluetooth, MP3 player, navigation system, and high-speed web surfing. In short, there’s not much you can’t do when you’ve got the Dare on-hand and you’ll just feel cool using it.

Call Quality

Calls and speakerphone: We found calls for the most part to be loud and clear on the LG Dare. We did occasionally use the side volume keys to adjust the sound both up and down. Using the speakerphone didn’t seem to degrade call quality on our end, however, callers said that we did sound like we were using a speakerphone. Additionally, you don’t have to be too close to the cell phone when using the speakerphone to be heard by callers – a definite plus.

Audio quality: Playback of songs is loud through the cell phone’s speakers, and songs didn’t sound too tinny at all, which is more typical than not. The LG Dare sports a 3.5mm headset jack so you can use your own stereo headphones to listen to music on the cell phone. Since the LG Dare supports Bluetooth stereo, you can also purchase an optional Bluetooth stereo headset if you want to listen to music without wires.

Best Phone by Verizon and LG Yet

If this phone had WiFi it truly would have it all. The reception is excellent. the animated backround on the home screen is neat. the cabability to place shortcut icons on the home screen is awesom. As well as places your picture ids in the favorites and drag them to either place a call to the person or text them. The jukebox is incredible. the sound you get from 1 little speaker is wow. I can write all day on this thing but, you have to have it in your hands to truly appreciate it. I promise you will love it.

  LG Dare - Verizon's Best
Review created: 04/05/09

I cannot say enough about how perfect this phone is for me. I did a lot of research, and I would urge anyone who is considering buying a phone to do the same. There are many things about the Dare that I love, and I know many people have questions about functionality, etc. so here's a few things that I would've liked to know about the phone in detail before purchasing it:

Texting: If you love to text, this phone is definitely for you! I send 180+ text messages a day, and this phone does not disappoint. If you plan on texting often, YOU NEED TO CALIBRATE THE SCREEN. It's a very simple procedure, but if you're an avid texter, this is a must. The QWERTY keyboard is absolutely PERFECT if you calibrate the screen correctly. I recommend calibrating holding the phone horizontally, using both thumbs just like you would when you text. It makes things 100% easier, and I have to say I have come to love the touch screen even more than the physical keys on my old LG enV.

Music: With a 3.5mm headphone jack, the LG Dare is a music playing powerhouse. It's very simple to get music onto your phone using either a microSD card or the USB cable. I HIGHLY recommend copying the music you want on your phone into a separate folder that you can manage through Verizon's version of Rhapsody. Making a separate folder allows you to better control what exactly Rhapsody puts on your phone as well as allowing you to customize the album art in a more efficient manner. If you are going to listen to a lot of music, BUY A MICROSD CARD. I recommend getting a 4GB card, as I have heard that the Dare has trouble sometimes with 8 or 16 GB cards. Also, you can listen to music while you are texting, setting your calendar, and many other things on the phone - LG calls it multitasking, and it's great!

Pictures: The background resolution size of the dare is 240x400. This means that you're going to need to either crop your pictures on your computer, take new ones using the awesome camera on the Dare, or get some off a website. I highly recommend using zedge.com and selecting the Dare as your default phone - it will bring up tons of 240x400 pictures for you to use, even some animated ones. Also, whatever you use for your background, make sure you SAVE IT TO THE PHONE. If your background picture is saved on the card, the phone will need to access it every time you go to the home screen, which will slow down the speed of everything.

Camera: The best on any cell phone on the market - even better than the iPhone! 3.2 megapixels with a flash and autofocus that actually WORK. You can crop, send, and do a TON of things with your pictures just using the phone! No need to upload to a computer to crop, you can do it and do it well on the Dare.

Calls: The call quality is amazing! The touchpad is easy to use, and my favorite thing is the proximity sensor - when you have the phone up to your ear, the screen turns off to conserve battery!

There's only TWO nitpicky things that I can say are "wrong" with the LG Dare:

It's a fingerprint magnet. You're going to using the touchscreen constantly, and you're going to leave evidence. The back of the phone is really nice though, black matte finish, and no fingerprints will gather there.

The screen scratches fairly easily - make sure to get a good screen protector. However, this is true of all touchscreen phones, so it's not a huge strike against the Dare.

The Dare is by far the BEST PHONE FOR VERIZON and my top choice

Golden Notes of the LG Dare
Review created: 03/21/09

I've had the Dare for a little over a month now, and it is truly a remarkable phone. I was a initially going to get the Blackberry Storm, but didn't need all the data plan features that were required to pay for. so i looked a step down and found the LG Dare, and the Samsung Omnia. I had the same problem with the Omnia - you have to pay for data service monthly. So i decided to go with the Dare.

The best description for this phone is a mix of thing. So i'll take it by its key steps.

First, the phone features itself. The clarity is very clear and high quality, and it has all the options you need while calling on the screen, such your entire home menu in case you have to look up an address, number, or need the dial pad. It also has sensors that lock the phone as soon as it gets within a certain close distance to your cheek, thus disabling the possibility of hitting numbers accidentally while on a call.

Texting:I thought at first a touchscreen would be difficult and inaccurate to text on, being also that the Dare is smaller than the iphone or the Blackberry Storm. i find that keeping a slight vibrate set to each touch, helps you to have the best accuracy. After a few days, i was texting just as fast as i use to with my qwerty keypad on my old LG enV. The screen, held vertically, is like the pad on a regular phone; rotate to phone horizontally in your hand, and you have a full virtual keypad.

Music: I'd best describe the music features on this phone, remarkable, and very similar to the ipod touch / iTouch. The clarity and quality is incredible, and i dont use an ipod now, i have all my music on my Dare. you can browse albums by sliding with your finger to the left or right, and you can set any song to a different sound effect, such as if your listening to rock, pop, classical, R&B, etc, so you always get the best sound. You can also keep your music playing and return to your home screen to multi-task, such as play a game, edit photos, etc. You can also plug it into your speakers and have music playing in surround sound. quite awesome.

Photos/ Videos: I am truly amazed at the quality of the photos it takes. The best photos are ones taken outdoors, because it has plenty of natural light. It has tons and tons of photo effects, options, and editing software ON the phone. I took some photos outside, and was blown away when i saw the result. My friends couldn't believe my phone took the picture. The video is not nearly as clear as the photos, but again, outside, and keeping the phone steady and moving slowly, its a great device for capturing moments quickly. you can record up to over an hour i'm sure, i'm not sure how long. but i've recorded an hour.

Browser: a phone that has real HTML browsing on the internet, just like your computer only the size of your phone screen - pretty cool if you ask me. The browser has been slow with me, but i rarely use it.

GPS / Navigator: One of the coolest features on this phone in my opinion is the GPS syustem. I've used it many times, and its completely accurate, and amazing. Enough said - its also a GPS.

Its got lots of other applications, and 3D games that are remarkable for a phone, and the size is sleek and slim. weather a business guy, or a teen wanting entertainment, this phone is a great, great choice!

Great phone! I was kind of skeptical at first about getting a touch screen phone, but so far, I LOVE IT! The touch screen is very easy to get used to, and after you calibrate it the texting is easy, too! The battery life is awesome, the call quality is awesome...it's basically just an awesome phone! If you are going to use the drawing features, however, you will want a stylus pen, it makes it much easier to use!

PROS: Reception, battery, call quality, touch screen feedback, colorful screen, lots of options.

CONS: You might need a stylus pen to access some things easier.

The only thing keeping me from rating this as "Excellent" is that I've actually used an iPhone and iPod touch. :)

The touchscreen on the LG Dare is not near as intuitive and/or sensitive as the iPhone, but it gets the job done. And on Verizon, it's one of the only touchscreen options (the Blackberry Storm is more like a drizzle).

As for being a phone, it works great - reception and clarity rivals the best I've had. I wanted a touchscreen because I wanted a full keyboard, but didn't want the bulk of a real keyboard on my phone.

All in all, I'm very happy with this phone. Just don't expect the iPhone.

It blows the other touchscreens out of the water.

This phone is one of best touch phones so far. It has many features that you might love.

However, it seems to be having a problem with network connections. When you try to use internet, you might experience lost connection.

I am not sure if it is something with service career or phone itself. Since I don't have any problem with my previous phone, I guess it is about the phone.

However, I put the overall rate as 5 of 5 since it has so many features that can cover those minor problem.

This phone is small enough for a woman's hand and it still fits in the back pocket of your jeans. You can text the old way or you can use it like a computer key board (which is my favorite). Email, chat, the whole nine yards. You basically only need a computer if you have to print. I would highly recommend this phone to anyone!!!! Its and A++++ for me.

I've had this phone for two weeks and love it. The reception i get with it is much better than any other phone I've had! I only get LG phones and I'm always impressed by the reception I get compared to my friends that do not have LG's, but this one is even better. The phone takes some getting use to especially constantly unlocking it, but its a good safety feature when its in your pocket. The battery life is great, I let mine go three days with out a recharge and I talk over two hours a day on it and an average of 75 texts and I never shut it off. I would not recommend this phone to anyone that doesm't like new technology. It is tricky to get the feel for texting, I'm not really a QWERTY fan so i use the WORD mode and I'm still getting use to where the keys are so I can txt without looking at the phone. I would recommend this phone to any parent looking for the perfect christmas gift for their kids.

Like: Touch screen, talk clarity, haptic feedback. I really enjoy using menus on the phone. It's a use of form and function. The Dare combines elegance with simplicity. The phone is very easy to use, but is just absolutely a blast to use. Texting takes a little getting used to. Once you realize that texting while driving is a terrible idea, it becomes safer too. The music player is well laid too. Not an iphone, but close enough.
Dislike: With the V05 upgrade my screen will occasionally freeze up. requiring me to lock and unlock the phone with the side button lock key. No big deal, but still a drawback. Like I said, texting did require some familiarization, not a huge drawback though. Other than that I honestly can't think of anything bad to say about the phone.

Great apps but the virtual qwerty keyboard is cumbersome and impossible to type flawlessly on. LG has made a great product but if you text a lot its keyboard is certainly not user friendly. Far shot from the iPhone but if you want the Dare try the Voyager for more user friendly apps and a real qwerty keyboard.

This is the best touch screen phone I have owned. I average about 2 phones in a 6 month period to see what is out there and really because I have never just liked a phone enough to hang on to it. In this case though, I love this phone. The extended battery is also very good. The guy I bought the phone off of left the phone on and shipped it to me. After 11 days in the u.s. postal service hands, it arrived at my door. I pulled out the phone, and it still had battery power! I couldnt' believe it. Buy yourself a mirror screen protector and you are set to go!

Expect shipping to take at least double the amount of time seller states. Make sure you get to the item immediately after it is delivered and make sure it works, as item is probably faulty. Seller will try to charge extra fees for you to return the item and is incredibly difficult to deal with.

I didn't get to purchase the phone because before I paid for it, I asked the seller for ESN# to see if it was a clear number. When I check on it, it came back as a stolen item. So I didn't get it. I already have one of these, so I was trying to gey one for my Dad.
