L.H. Mace and Co., NYC manufacturers of ice boxes

This 80 page booklet is a reprint of an illustrated catalogue collection available in 1883 from the L.H. Mace & Co. on E. Houston Street in NYC. Levi H. Mace, a carpenter, founded his woodenware, meat safes, toy and icebox company in 1850. Frederick S. Gwyer became the vice-president of the company and remained a life-long friend of the Mace family. Common wood used by the Mace Co. included pine, ash and black walnut. Mace patented and manufactured fifteen icebox models, all lined with zinc or galvanized iron. They could hold 90-100 pounds of ice! The company also made wooden toys for boys and girls as well as children's carriages. The booklet includes extensive black and white reproductions and price quotes of their items. This small manufacturing company disappeared in the Depression days of the 1930's.
The booklet represents a small snapshot of cultural and commercial history. I think the reprint is excellent, complete and am happy to have the copy.
