The Yashica FX3 is a really sweet little camera. It has a fully mechanical shutter and timer. The 3V battery operates the light meter only. This is very handy if you are doing long exposures (moonlight, night city, etc..). Also a bonus for travelling. You can still shoot at all speeds if your battery dies. The best features are its super light weight and compatability with all Yashica/Contax Carl Zeiss lenses. I have 2 as backups to much more expensive cameras. Normally backup cameras get little use. In this case they are so light and inexpensive not to mention dependable, I use them all the time. One last feature that should be mentioned is the timer. The timer has a mirror lock-up function. This is a feature all SLR cameras should have. At slow exposure times just set the timer, push the shutter release, and the mirror locks in up position until after shutter fires. This reduces vibration and makes for a sharper shot. Most pros will not purchase a camera without MLU. And most consumer grade cameras don't have it, making this a great extra on the FX3. The light meter has an led over/on/under in viewfinder. Yashica made a couple versions of this camera. My experience has been better with the earlier version. On two of the later ones I have come across. The mirror has fallen out of alignment. The earlier has the poor quality leatherette that Kyocera put many of its cameras. Once you peal of the outer flaking layer however the base fabric makes a nice grip. The FX3 is a great camera at a great price.
