Album Notes On 2008's KONK, the follow-up to the Kooks' well-received debut, INSIDE IN INSIDE OUT, the youthful Britpop ensemble unveils another set of catchy guitar-driven ditties. Buoyed by the crisp, clear production of Tony Hoffer (Beck, the Fratellis), this sophomore outing finds precocious Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard presenting more hook-filled anthems, as evinced by the punchy "Always Where I Need to Be" and the jangly "Mr. Maker." Other standout tracks include the urgent opener, "See the Sun," and the reggae-tinged "Tick of Time." Slightly more energetic and electric than its acoustic-oriented predecessor, KONK will appeal to fans of INSIDE, but is likely to expand the Brighton-based group's audience with its charming immediacy.
