This review is meant to help balance out the first useless review that shouldn't have been written.

I have owned this camera. I am no professional, but I never had any real problems with it. It takes good pictures (although my auto focus was very slightly off) and is pretty user friendly. It is a bit heavy and bulky, but that should be expected from an older SLR camera.

Overall, I think this is a fine camera

I have a Maxxum 7000. I love it. My dad also had on and put me on to it. We have had them since they came out in the early 80's, and the other manufacturer's tried to copy them. They are still sought after because of their durability, quality, and optional functions. You can't go wrong with this camera. I am now looking at a 5000, just to have another I can carry with me in my car at all times. I live near the beach in NJ, and many professional sell photos at craft shows. The photos I've taken are as good or better than those. My dad called it an idiot camera, because any idiot could only take spectacular pictures when the camera is set in the auto focus mode.

  Value left in Old Minolta

What is pleasing about the Minolta Maxxum 5000 is that it's a modern camera with auto-focus, yet it's old enough to be purchased at a very reasonable price.

My daughter and one of her friends had expressed an interest in "real" photography after some experience with a digital capture point N shoot. The Minolta was just right, adjustable for creativity, automatic for convenience.
Even though the company is out of the camera business now, there are a lot of Minolta lenses and accessories listed on e-bay so the "kit" can be upgraded. And the Minolta lens mount will fit the new Sony digital SLRs so buying them for this film camera may have use in the future.

Very User Friendly Auto Focus Camera

I purchased this camera about 4 months ago. I have run at least 3 rolls of film thru the camera, and everyone turned out excellent. I like the 35mm cameras, have had several in the past. I purchased 2 other cameras, before I got this one, and had to return them because of Dead On Arrival. This camera was in excellent working condition and has been well maintained. I know that similar cameras sell for less, but I also know that there are Minolta Maxxum 5000 camera bodies on Ebay for more than the price of this camera.

Even though the company is out of the camera business now, there are a lot of Minolta lenses and accessories that will fit the new Sony digital SLRs so you can buying them free of worries since Sony boughtout Konica Minolta therefore the Minolta's lenses works so perfect on a Sony Camera Body.

What I love the most about it?........ easy to use, excellent pictures and my #1 reason,..the shuter speed, specially when chasing a 2 year old.

My son enrolled in a photgraphy class at college. The instructor required that the students have a 35 MM camera that had manual light adjustment, manual aperture adjustmemt nad other items. I found the 5000 on ebay and the price was great! Shipping was fast and I purchased it with Paypal which takes a lot of the worry out of the deal. When it got here it was in perfecet shape and worked great. The instructor was impressed with camera my son has had no problems with it at all.

I enjoyed the ease of taking great pictures in the auto mode. I agree with other reviews, this camera is idiot proof in the auto mode. I enjoyed the Maxxum Zoom lenses taking wildlife photos. It is a nice solid camera, kinda heavy but worth the SLR 35MM experience. I liked the AAA battery requirement rather than a more expensive camera battery. Very easy to use first time.

I purchased mine because I wanted a "good" camera to take on a vacation to Hong Kong.AS my first SLR camera, I found it easy to use. And very reliable. With the addition of optional minolta AF lens, this takes some excellent pictures.
A real keeper.

I had a similar camera and was very happy with its performance. I had to chance to add another camera and I am very pleased with its performance so far. It has worked great, received it as advertised in very good condition. Added filter to protect the lens. Mechanics work great on this camera.

  KONICA MINOLTA 5000 FILM CAMERA
Review created: 05/07/09

I needed a replacement for my old Minolta 5000. I liked the model and description of the model advertised. The camera arrived in good condition and well packed. I had trouble getting it to work until I noticed that the contact points in the camera and flash were tarnished. After cleaning them both, the camera and and flash worked well. I am satisfied with the purchase and I hope to get many years use from it.

Well--- ahhhhh, --- I don't know why you want me to write a review about this item. I have not bought one on E-bay or anywhere else! I don't have one so it is a little hard to say what I like most about it except that since I haven't spent any money on one I probably like the price the most. As for what I dislike about--- ahhhh, I ahhhh--- don't realy dislike any thing about it, ahhhh--- except that it is not digital.

Thanks for asking my opinion though.

Rick Monroe.

When purchasing this item I was under the impression it was in good working condition (so that is what the seller told me) but it wasn't. Be sure that you know about things that you are purchasing and don't rely on the seller only. Make sure to ask the seller as many questions as possible.

The mirror very dirty, couldn't clean it off. I bought it because I had soon Minolta lens that I knew would fit, but the inside was so dirty I've decided to give it to a charity that takes cameras and give them to people who need them. I hope they can clean it better than myself.
