Kodak ZD710 7.1 Megapixel Camera Review created: 07/09/08(updated 10/16/09) 7 of 7 people found this review helpful.
I purchased this camera less than 60 days ago. The reason I purchased it was it was being sold in a package. These items were noted as being Refurbished. The camera has been a dream. Easy to operate, easy to understand. I have never been great at taking pictures, but this camera makes anyone a Pro. It has outstanding features such as image stabilization, red-eye reduction,a proprietary technology called smart scene and on & on. The Kodak 600G on the otherhand has been a nightmare. The first one I received was defective, the second one I received had a broken door. Not a big deal, but I like my things looking like new. Although you aren't able to really tell these items from new cosmetically as far as mars or scratches, the broken door was a back breaker. I wrote & told Kodak of their sloppy Quality Control & how disappointed I was in this aspect of the sale. I did not send it back because it worked so well. I could live with a door that would probably remain open most of the time anyway. This door is great for keeping debris out of the rollers when I will travel with the camera & printer. The pictures that come out of this printer are just the most breath taking, professional looking that you're able to get. With buying supplies online it has my per picture cost down under .20 in fact it is more like .15 same as the drug store or Wal-mart. So why take your pictures out to develope when you're able to do it at home & possibly share them with others instantly? I love having the technology at home. So far the only thing I'm not wild about on the camera is an icon that constantly tells me of the battery life. My old camera had it & I was able to monitor it constantly. You always knew when you were getting low. This one has an icon too but you have to press another button to see it and then it defaults to off after so many seconds. That sorta' sucks. I always carry a fully charged spare with me, but if I'm not vigilant, the camera could die at some moment you may never recapture again. All in all, I would rate the whole set-up a 9 out of 10. I would recommend this to anyone that wanted professional looking photos without the high price tag of some of the more expensive equipment out there. UPDATE: I've had this camera for a year & a half now...I'm still in love with it. It takes beautiful, clear, crisp pictures & it didn't break the bank doing it. My cousin got married October 2008. The photographer they hired was a shmuck and didn't get pictures to the family until May of 2009. Mine were printed & in their hands the next day. They were all they had for 7months. Most of the ones I took were another angle of staged poses the photographer had the wedding party in. Mine rivaled his. In fact the brides Mother preferred some of mine over his shots. There are true camera buffs out there that would poo-poo a Kodak product. They haven't seen some of my pictures. Close ups, distance shots, you name it, they're as good as the pros. I would still recommend this camera. I bought another on e-bay & sent it to a friend about 800 miles from where I live. He now understands why I rave about it so much! I converted him from his beloved 35mm. He can't believe how crisp & pure the colors are in pictures he snaps. Try one, you just may love it.

I love this camera! I had a compact point & shoot camera, and if it is a compact camera your looking for, this probably isn't going to be your dream camera. Its not huge, but you can do alot with it. I used to have a cannon rebel slr camera and really liked using all of the filers and different lenses, and you can use all of those same filters and close up, macro, wide angle lenses with this camera too! so you can have most of the options of a genuine digital slr, but without the hefty price tag to go along with it. All you need to do is buy the lense adaptor, which ranges anywhere from 6.00 to about 10.00 and you can have a pretty nice set up for your camera. You don't need to but the expensive kits either, just make sure that any filters, etc are 52mm or bigger and if they are bigger, buy yourself a step down ring so that you can get the correct fit on your camera. I was REALLY impressed with the quality of the close up shots after I bought the macro lens- I can take a picture of a tiny ant and look like a professional photographer took the picture....and that macro lens cost me under $25.00!!! You can't beat that! For someone that doesn't have a million dollars to spend and doesn't need a camera that fits in there pocket, this just might be the camera for you!!! Another perk is that you can buy old or used filters for just a few dollars and have a lot of fun experimenting with what they do to your pics! Photoshop programs are nice, but they don't hold a candle to the cheap set up you can get for this camera for a few extra dollars!
