This is my third digital camera, I've had a 2 megapixel olympus a 7.1 meg kodak c743 and just bought the kodak z812. This is by far the best camera that i've had. Wonderful pics lots of options fairly easy to figure out. Iwould recomend this camera to anyone who likes to take pictures. I bought it from Bestbuy for 281.00. I know that the battery life on the z712 is very poor, but they must have fixed it on the z812. they last a long time

Easy to Use and Fun to Use!

This is my third digital camera and my third Kodak. It is easy and simple to use. It even has the assist light for those low light conditions. It takes great pictures and videos. The battery life is excellent! I have taken over 100 pics with the camera and I still have not had to charge the battery. I did buy the rechargable batteries, but have yet to use them. I was looking for a camera that had the 12x zoom and the asist light. This one haS both and takes great pictures! A must have item!

1.5 years later... I bought this camera a mere year and a half ago. At first, I was very pleased with it.

BUT...

The focus when dealing with close-ups does not pick up object easily. Its a real effort to get it to focus properly.

It goes through the batteries like no tomorrow

AND, this is the best part.

The flash stopped responding one day. out of the blue.

I've crabbed a lot about this camera. I did take awesome shots with it, the zoom being probably its best feature. The printer dock that came with it was a joke as you can't use any other paper than kodak (gets rather expensive). And the software is a monster on memory, and you need the software to access your pics if you don't have a card reader.

I went out and bought what was my original choice (before I decided on the kodak) and its a Canon Rebel XS 1000D with changeable lenses. Awesome! There is no zoom included, (got to buy a new lens) but its very much like the old style 35 mm. I love it. You can see examples of both on my photo site , since I'm not allowed to post the link, do a search for "pethugrugs" on Google, and the first link that goes to the photo bucket with aladybughugs is mine. Look under photography. Anything that's not watermarked Canon is taken with the kodak (or my dad's Sony). You'll see the difference!

I'm never buying Kodak again (if I can help it :)
feel free to mesg. me if you have more questions.

  Kodak has a winner!

I was choosing between 3 super zoom cameras.
Canon PowerShot S5 IS
Olympus SP-550 UZ
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18

I had not even considered the Kodak, mainly because I did not know
anything about them. Then I met a fellow dad at a my son's soccer
game, with the Kodak Z812. He show me some shots he had taken during
the game, and some scenery shots.
Wow!
The camera was well layed out as far as controls, the zoom
was powerful (12X), and it shot fast, no lag.
When I did my price point comparison, I could get the Kodak
for $150 less than any of the other super zoom cameras.

I am very happy with the camera.
My only complaint is that Kodak tried to stick a
proprietary battery in the camera. I found out from
reading online camera forums, that 2 AA batteries
work too.

Great camera that does not break the bank.

This is a great camera for all picture enthusiasts! Easy to use, lots of features to help you take the best photos. We purchased after borrowing my mom's Z712, and decided to upgrade to the newer model because of the shutter speed & higher zoom. Anyone who has kids will appreciate the action shots you are able to take with this camera!

I can only find one thing I dislike about this camera everything else is A+
Very easy to use, Fast Downloading to PC, Fast Focus, Light weight, Adjustable for all lighting conditions, Great Macro Close Ups, Huge memory with the 4GB Chip in it. I could go on and on about the good things.
The Only Negitive is it burns thru batteries like there free. Instead of 2 AA's it should have a stronger new Syle battery Pack with a Spare.

Kodak z812 is the best Point-and-Shoot value
Review created: 11/07/08

After carefully weighing the options when looking for a new digital camera I really wanted to go for something that had as many features as possible while still being affordable. In an ideal world I would have been able to afford an SLR, but this camera is about as close to an SLR as you can get in a point and shoot camera. It is easy enough that a beginner can easily use it and has enough features that someone who has more than gotten their feet wet with photography will be satisfied with this camera. After ten or twenty minutes with it you'll swear it's one of the best cameras out there.

This is the best value for your money. Also, don't hesitate to buy a factory refurbished model from Kodak; this will easily cut almost half of the MSRP and in addition all models that have been refurbished by Kodak have the same exact warranty as a new camera bought from them.

I had a Kodak Easyshare that was a couple years old and It was unfortunately stolen at my county fair, so I decided to buy another Kodak easyshare because I like my old one so much and I wanted to be able to use my kodak printer dock. I love the Z812. It takes pictures very fast, and you can take them one after another with almost no delay at all. They have improved this feature a lot since my old camera. I would recommend this camera to anyone. Can be used by a beginner or a novice. Love it!

The start of a fabulous hobby..........................
Review created: 03/10/08

Back in Feb of 08' I purchased the Kodak Z812 digital camera coupled to Kodak's
G600 printer dock.I have been pleased beyond my wildest expectations. They are both set up to be up and running in a very short time. I was taking great photos immediately and the printer is a pure joy to use.
The camera was bought after an intensive period of shopping and comparing and was needed because of it's high telephoto capabilities, namely 12X. The features are easy to use and there is even a help menu built right into the camera. The
clarity and brightness of the LED screen is fantastic but there is also a lighted viewfinder that supplements this quite well. The small compact size was also another factor that figured into my choice.Fits in the palm of the hand.
After having owed several other digital cameras of varies makes this has easily become my favorite and will be used extensively to persue my hobby of nature photography. From super detailed macro photos to the ultra sharp high zooms made better by the always active image stabilization one could not ask for anything more.
As for the G600 printer dock I am in love with it.From it's very small compact size,to the ease of use,to the quality prints it delivers this is a definate keeper. After some shopping on line a bit for the cartridge and paper I can print all the photos I choose for a mere 15 1/2 cents apiece and it will do it all day without even monitoring.A great feature is that it also recharges the camera's batteries so they are always ready to go.A big help for sure.
The only complaint I have with the entire set-up is maybe their software. I find it to be slow and clumsy probably due to the fact that it fights the several other photo programs I have installed on my computer already. I am finding ways of working around this and I beleive if it is the only one installed you would be very happy with it.
Now for the best part.............The Kodak website and support tech. team are
unbelievable.I have e-mailed them with several questions and they have responded
quickly and intelligently and have answered all of my questions. You can also download the expanded owner's manuals for both units there for free. They are truly a class act.
In conclusion I would give this camera and printer my highest reccomendation and would purchase another in a heartbeat. Happy picture taking!!!!

I absolutely love this camera.......It is easy to use and takes incredible pictures AND videos. I was uncertain about buying the Kodak EasyShare Z812 IS after reading some feedback. I thought I would need to spend alot more money to get this quality. The zoom is enough in most cases. There is another telescopic lense available for this camera. I will most likely get it eventually, by probably don't really need it. I would buy this camera again and again. It is a great buy for the money and more. The manual could be better.........but if you are familiar with Kodak, this one will be easy also.

  Excellent Camera, Great Price
Review created: 02/12/08

Originally I was holding out until the new CCD sensors from Kodak made it on to the retail camera market before buying a new camera. I liked the idea of better low light pictures and have lost dusk shots of moose and wolves due to bad light sensitivity.
I purchased this camera along with a bundle of 5 bonuses. The camera does really well in low light conditions and has surprised me with its quality and versatility in every day shots. I do wish the movies were saved in some other format than .mov format but I'll find something to help with movie edits. A word of caution is that these cameras use the lithium based cells and operate on 3.7v where the Ni-MH AA batteries supplied in my package only produce 2.4v total.(camera lasts about 2 minutes before shutting off from low power)
12X zoom (nice optics) works really nice and produces a very nice picture.

  My Easyshare Camera purchase
Review created: 02/07/09
by:
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

First of all I was looking for a camera that looked like a camera. Not something that is pink, that looks like a transistor radio I used to have in 8th grade. Nor something that could slip into my pocket.
A friend had one she took with her on a trip we went on together and I was impressed with the camera's features.
I bid on this camera shortly before it was about to run out of time and was happy with the price and with its quick delivery. The seller communicated well, sent it in sufficient packing and I was able to use it the very next say. Although it did not come with an owner's manual nor a lens cap (I knew this in advance) I was able to obtain BOTH items for under $5.00 total.
The next day, the indicator said the battery was low, so my husband replaced it with an alkaline battery. Well, it appeared as though the camera did not work any more!!
So I wrote to the seller, asking for advice.
She immediately wrote back that she would refund my money upon the return of the camera, which was a very professional attitude, but I thought we should try something else.
The batteries that came in the camera were lithium and the Owner's Manual I had downloaded said lithium, so we went and got lithium---and lo and behold, the camera works perfectly.
We have 8 grandchildren, and the memory on this camera is far superior to any digital camera that we have used in the past. We can take a boatload of pictures, edit out the ones we don't want and print the ones we do.
I would recommend this type of camera to anyone who is not a professional photographer, but wants to take family pix and wants a camera with enough of a memory card that you don't have to download the pictures every other time you use it. It has a 12x zoom and 8.1 megapixels, so the pictures are clear and crisp.

  Best Investmet Kodak Z812IS
Review created: 02/21/08
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I lost my expensive camera a few weeks ago while returning from a short vacation from Puerto Rico. My luggage was broken in by a baggage handler at Spirit Airlines. Now I was detemined to buy a camera with all the bells and whistles without the price tag of a Corvette. After searching the camera market and reading reviews and recommendations from several trusted sources I came across this hidden jewel, the Kodak Z812IS. It had it all: looks, features, options and price. Very easy to program with a good array of choices to accomodate almost any photographic situation. I can only compare this one with the best of Nikon. My pictures are coming out as if an expert photographer with an expensive equipment took the pictures. Oh, extremely light and easy to carry around. Stop your search and invest on this one, you will not be disappointed.

This is a great little camera. I am an old 35mm SLR camera guy so I thought a long time before buying the Kodak. This one does more automaticaly than I was ever able to do with my SLR cameras. The price was great and the dealer I purchased it from threw in a 4gig SD card which is a must if you are going to take a lot of photos. I am going to enjoy all the features this unit has to offer.
